Canadian man faces off against wild goose on his way to work

August 6th, 2020

During the migration season, geese are fun to watch. And of course, you can’t help but know they’re coming because of the honking noise they make. But there’s another side to these feathered creatures. If you bother them, they can become quite aggressive.

One video proves that

Now viewed more than five million times, an individual captured an encounter between a man and a goose. It took place in Canada and while it’s funny, there’s also a somewhat scary aspect to it.

Knowing the signs

According to geese experts, there are several reasons why they turn from adorable birds to little devils. For the most part, geese are extremely protective. So, if they have a nest or babies nearby, they’ll fight to the death to keep them safe. But they also spook easily, they’re not accustomed to being around people, and they don’t particularly like to share space.

An unsuspecting target

In the viral video, an individual captured a moment when a man walking along came into view of a goose. Dressed in slacks and a jacket, he’s minding his own business. You see him going down a paved pathway with no idea of what’s about to happen.

Standing its ground

As soon as the man rounds the corner, a goose appears in the middle of the pathway. It’s staring straight as the guy, almost as if challenging him. Initially, the man doesn’t think too much of it.

Moving aside

Apparently, this guy must know that geese can be mean. So, with a newspaper in his hand, he simply steps to the side. His plan is to walk across the grass so that he doesn’t come in direct contact with the goose. But that wasn’t good enough for this bird.

Getting a little too close

As the guy tries his best to avoid the goose, it lunges at him. Suddenly, this feathered creature is standing directly at the man’s feet. Using the newspaper, he begins swatting at it. Instead of helping the situation, it only makes it worse.

That wasn’t a good idea

With its wings flapping, the goose begins to jump up and down while still lunging. The man backs up a little. Then, the goose jumps super high, almost hitting the guy’s face. In the meantime, he’s still swatting at it with the newspaper.

Things get heated

Jumping backward onto the grass about three feet, this poor guy continues to try to get out of the bird’s way. But it’s got its wings fully spread. There’s no question, the goose is sending a clear message. We don’t why but it doesn’t want this guy anywhere near it.

A stand-off

For a few seconds, the two of them just stand there, staring each other down. You can tell the man isn’t sure what he should do next. Rather than turn and quickly leave the area, he walks toward the bird with the newspaper in front of him.

Things go from bad to worse

We have no idea what this guy was thinking. He became the aggressor, which only made a bad situation far worse. As the man inches closer, this time, the bird retreats. But with a second stare-down, it again flies toward the man.

Had enough

After the second attack, the man finally wises up and decides to leave. The goose does the same. Although they each go their own way, at one point, the two of them look back at one another. While all this is going down, the girl recording can’t stop laughing.
