Like humans, some animals can be born looking a little different from others – but it’s the differences that make them so special.

So when a bunny was born with no ears and only three legs, it didn’t take long before the sweet girl was adopted and taken home by a woman who thought she was simply adorable. The bunny now lives in California with her owner, who has come up with a couple of creative ideas to make sure her bunny is never feeling too bare without her floppy ears.

Mimi the rabbit lives with her 22-year-old owner, Rodajia Welch, in Sacramento, and despite being born deaf and handicapped, she lives a life as happy as any other bunny. She also looks absolutely adorable. Just look at that little fluffy white head!

Rodajia first set eyes on the gorgeous bunny when she was volunteering at her job where she provides basic pet care needs to pet owners who are low income or homeless.

According to Rodajia, it was love at first sight, and she instantly knew that she would be taking the sweet little bunny home with her. She told Bored Panda:

“As soon as I saw the cute bunny I fell in love and couldn’t wait to take her home.”

It was actually when deciding on a name for Mimi that Rodajia came up with the idea of the knitted ears.

“Deciding to make the ears all started with finding her a name – it obviously had to be ear-related. So while doing some research my boyfriend Josh came across Kemonomimi, which is a form of cosplay where the characters have fluffy animal ears,” she reflected.

The cosplay not only inspired Mimi’s name, but also her appearance. Although Rodajia loved Mimi’s uniqueness, she couldn’t help but picture how adorable Mimi would look with her very own pair of knitted ears!

“It was perfect because she didn’t have any ears and she could be whatever she wanted to be,” Rodajia said.

So without further ado, Rodajia began to crochet Mimi her first-ever pair of ears.

Luckily, it seems that Rodajia is quite good at patterns because the ears turned out perfectly. And we think that Mimi loves them!

Since then, Rodajia has been inspired to crochet all kinds of different ears and headbands for this special bunny.

Over time she has knitted a flower crown, a little Halloween pumpkin hat, and even some mouse-shaped ears! No matter what she makes, Mimi always pulls it off flawlessly.

Apparently, Mimi is very much a fan of her little headbands – though she has the option to take them off if she ever wants to cool down.

”She only wears the ears after I’ve just made them for pictures, or when she’s sitting with me,” explained Rodajia, “She lets me put them on her, but for safety reasons I don’t tie them in a knot so if she wanted to, she could just knock them off pretty easy.”

We’ve loved seeing all of Rodajia’s talented designs and we hope that she continues to share them in the future – along with adorable snaps of Mimi, of course.
