Do you believe in soulmates? After you read this story – you just might.

A young boy named Madden was born with both a cleft-lip and a complete heterochromia iridum.

“Heterochromia iridum is when a part of the iris has at least two colors. Complete heterochromia iridum, where the eyes are completely different colors all together, is quite rare, existing in less than 1% of the population, I’m told. That plus the cleft lips is exceptionally rare,” Christina Humphreys, Madden’s mom told Love What Matters.

Madden’s conditions left him with unique features that many kids at school teased him about. He had no idea that he was about to meet a cat that would change everything.

“Last week, a friend posted an image of the cat in our cleft moms group. This kitty was taken in by a rescue group in Minnesota. We knew immediately that this kitty was meant to be part of our family,” Christina wrote.

How were Christina and Madden so sure that this kitty was meant to be theirs? Because he also was born with a cleft lip and heterochromia iridum. The odds of these two ever meeting up have got to be nearly impossible.

“They were destined to be best friends.”

The Oklahoma family received help from friends and family to fund Madden and Christina’s drive all the way to the cat’s home in Minnesota. They were willing to go the distance to adopt such a perfect companion.

“We’re usually not spontaneous people, but we knew that we were meant to love this kitty. Moon, the kitty, and Madden are the perfect companions for each other,” she continued.

Christina is absolutely certain that it is fate that brought Madden and Moon together.

The loving mom says that there’s no other explanation than fate as to what brought these two together. They were so far from one another, their conditions were so rare, and the timing of it all was just so serendipitous.

“I’m amazed that we found out about him, and even more amazed by the friends and strangers that helped us get to him, and adopt him. Everyone needs a friend, and everyone needs to feel understood. I’m so thankful Madden has Moon,” Christina said.

Since Madden and Moon found one another – the internet has completely fallen in love with them and their incredible story.

“I had no intention of our family getting attention from this at all, but if anything does get attention, I truly hope it benefits kids with cleft lips, if only to raise awareness.”

This isn’t Madden’s first time being in the spotlight. He once starred in a video about anti-bullying letting people know that being a “poophead” to someone is cool or nice to do.

“There were a few kids saying really ugly, mean things to him. It really broke his spirit and he had a rough year,” Christina said.

Now that Madden has Moon, he realizes just how special they really are – he now knows that what they have is wonderous and magical.
