When a man named Joe saw a blind kitten wandering near his home in Florida, he knew that he had to help the cat. The tiny kitten was skinny and sick, and he clearly wasn’t going to last long on his own. With Joe’s help, the kitten began his miraculous recovery.

Joe let the cat into his house and fed him. When he was inside, Joe got a closer look at him and realized that the cat was covered in mange and his eyes were crusted shut. Joe needed help caring for him, and so he posted the kitten’s story on a local Facebook group. It was there that Carmen Weinberg, the founder of Animal Friends Project, learned about the cat.
“Early the next morning, I drove to pick him up,” Carmen told Love Meow. “I took him immediately to my vet, Justin Bartlett Animal Hospital, and they confirmed that he was suffering from mange, was very dehydrated and malnourished.”

Carmen took the little cat to her house to foster, and she named him Cotton after his soft white fur. For awhile, the kitten was in pain, which was tough for Carmen.
“We put coconut oil to soothe his skin and gave him lots of water and canned food to keep him hydrated,” Carmen told Love Meow. “Cotton stayed hunched over for days and days and seemed very uncomfortable. It was hard seeing him in that condition, knowing only time would heal him.”
Carmen fed Cotton and looked after him, and soon, he surprised her by beginning to purr when he saw his food. It was a great sign that he was starting to feel a little better.

After a few days, the crusty mange on his ears began to come off. Then, the crust around his eyes fell off, and he was finally able to open them. Carmen was shocked to see that he had two beautiful eyes, one that was blue and the other yellow.

Now that Cotton is feeling better, his personality is starting to shine through. He’s a very vocal cat who loves attention and being touched. He also loves cuddling up in people’s laps.

Just a few months after Joe rescued him and Carmen took him in, Cotton is a healthy cat who’s ready for his forever home. Thanks to these two good Samaritans, Cotton has a wonderful life ahead of him.
