When a tiny kitten with closed eyes appeared in the stairwell of Zeyad K.’s apartment building, he knew he had to help.

Although the kitten looked to be at least a few weeks old, it still hadn’t opened its eyes. As time went on, Zeyad started suspecting the cat may have an eye infection. When he decided to check, however, he discovered her eye sockets were completely empty.

“That’s when I knew she was completely blind,” he explained.

Zeyad was in the midst of living with 5 other family members and could not take the kitten in. But he started to feed it every day, ensuring that it always had food and water. Later on, when he had to go away for a family trip, he was anxious the whole time. When he returned, he was devastated.

“I returned home to find her lying down on my doorstep and she was just skin and bones, looking a lot dirtier than she was before,” he told LoveMeow. “My family didn’t need any more convincing after seeing that saddening sight, as I had been telling them how a blind stray cat wouldn’t be able to survive on her own and how we needed to take her in.”

Zeyad named the kitten Votchy, and she moved into her new furever home. The man cared for her every day, and soon she started regaining strength and using her other senses to explore the home.

Soon, they discovered Vonchy had another interesting trait: she did not seem to recognize her own name and never responded when called.

Additionally, Zeyad explained, “She didn’t seem to be startled by any loud, jarring noise even though my other cat would immediately start running away if I started the vacuum or blender […] When I snapped my fingers really loudly right next to her ears, she would not even flinch or react in the slightest.”

That’s when Zeyad and his family realized Votchy was deaf too.

But that’s just fine by little Votchy. See, she’s never known any different. Because she was born without vision and hearing, her other senses have become more sensitive to help compensate.

Votchy explores the house in her very own way, is extremely playful and loves to chase her tail. She likes wandering and exploring but never passes up the chance to cuddle either!

“It was one of my better decisions in life,” Zeyad said. “Now she’s living her life just like any other cat and absolutely loves to be petted.”

Votchy doesn’t know what it’s like to see or hear, but she does know some things for sure. Like the fact that she’s puuuuurrfect the way she is, and that nothing will ever slow her down.
