Just six weeks ago, members of staff at Animal Rescue Team rescued a desolate coyote and despite her dire condition – she’s continued to stun them with her amazing recovery.
This coyote had overcome injuries sustained from a 30-foot drop into a dried out riverbed, extreme dehydration, exposure to poison and perhaps most impressively – a gunshot to her head.
Her survival skills are truly something to behold.
What the staff members didn’t expect to discover when cleaning out her den – was that she was also pregnant.
Staff released a statement on their Facebook group detailing the causes of the coyote’s injuries. The coyote was believed to have been shot in her head by an unknown assailant, penetrating her frontal lobe, rendering her blind instantly. This is likely to be why she fell into the riverbed.
They believe she then found shelter in a watershed, looking for water to aid her extreme dehydration only to ingest rat poison instead.
It seemed that everything that could have gone wrong for her, did go wrong and these series of events were like something out of a nightmare.
The rescue group was called by someone that had found her in this state and understood she was in a dire condition.
“[Her condition] was so bad she stopped breathing,” the group states. “We did CPR until we got her to the vet.”
Since then the coyote has been recovering at the rescue center, under the watchful eye of their staff.

When the puppies arrived they were in perfect health. She’s proving to be a very caring and devoted mother to them.
“Although she remains blind, she is the best mother we have ever witnessed,” the group said.
The coyote will continue to be cared for at the rescue center until she has been fully rehabilitated. She doesn’t yet have a name – but the group has plans to donate her to a wildlife sanctuary as she will need ongoing support for the rest of her life due to her blindness.
“We believe she deserves to remain alive,” the group says.
The miracle puppies will remain with their heroic mother until they are old enough to be released into the wild, at a safe site that’s free from poison and hunters.
