When we think of animals, we don’t usually think of them as narcissistic beings. But you’ve never met the Bush-Stone Curlew. This little Australian bird is a major, major narcissist. More so than any selfie taking tween you’ve ever come across.
The self-obsessed bird was caught in the act of admiring himself on a camera outside of Queensland University of Technology.
Passersby may have been concerned as to why this little guy was staring endlessly into a window. People were so perplexed by it that the quirky bird has gone viral on the internet. The sign below actually explains it all.
“I’m a bush stone curlew,” the note says. “I’m fine. I just like to stare at myself in the window.”
What the bird was fixated on was himself. He is just obsessed with how handsome he is.
Or he was just disturbed by himself. Bush-Stone Curlews are ground-dwelling birds that freeze and become motionlessly, sometimes in weird positions, when they are disturbed. It’s a defense mechanism.
We’re not how sure how effective of a defense mechanism standing still is, but that’s what they do. This narcissistic guy hasn’t been able to escape the spotlight since this photo went viral… how fitting. He has his own Facebook page and has even been on the news.
And, like any internet star, he also has various hilarious memes of himself that are circulating social media.
For some reasons, Disney references are common in the memes poking fun at this odd bird. Like this one from Snow White.
And this one from Mulan.
Narcissism is usually seen as a negative trait but this bird and his obsession with his reflection is bringing plenty of people joy.
