We can always count on YouTube to show us videos of things that are a little out of the ordinary. After all, the more unusual a video it is, the more likely it is to go viral.
But never before did we expect to come across a video featuring a singing parrot and a guitar-playing man.
For those of you who haven’t heard of Frank Maglio Tico & the Man, this performing duo started their YouTube channel back in April 2020, and have already grown to have 81.8k subscribers since their first video.
The theme of the channel is very much centered around the pair’s performances. Most of the time, Frank plays the guitar, while Tico the parrot gives input with his own (somewhat questionable) vocals.
Apparently, Frank Maglio Jr, 55, only discovered his 20-year-old double yellow-headed parrot, Tico, was musically inclined at the beginning of the UK’s lockdown.
Since then, they’ve been putting on performances online for people all over the world!
Parrots are great at imitating, and Tico can master the singing behind pretty much every song!
In one of the pair’s latest videos, simply titled, “Don’t Fear The Reaper,” Frank and Tico take on one of Blue Oyster Cult’s most popular songs. No pressure.
It has to be said, Frank is an expert at playing the guitar- but unfortunately, Tico has stolen pretty much all the attention away with his *ahem* interesting vocals.
It’s a 10/10 for effort, though.
Tico may not know the words, but it’s actually pretty impressive that he’s made up his own melody to go with the song. It’s clear that he can identify the tone of the music and adapt his own tone accordingly.
Since this song is quite moody and melancholy, Toci adjusts his tempo, volume, and intonation, and sings in a more subdued tone to match that of the music.
There’s just something so entertaining about the performing duo.
Frank sits in the background with his guitar, while Tico takes center stage in front of the camera. All that’s missing is his very own little microphone!
While Tico may not be the best singer out there, his performance was both comical and memorable, which is all you need to become an online sensation!
It’s no surprise that Tico and Frank have gained so many fans so quickly.
Their video had soon reached over 250k views, and people from all over the world left comments to share their love for the performing pair. Naturally, most of their comments were about Tico.
“It’s like he knows when singing is supposed to happen, but he doesn’t quite get what singing actually is,” one person quipped.
Another added: “Most people don’t realize that birds, especially parrots, have a strong natural sense of musical rhythm.”
Someone else said: “Sounds like he’s more freestyling here than singing and whistling his favorite riffs and phrases. He’s getting better at this music thing.”
A final person gave credit to Frank for accepting the fact that Tico would always be hogging the limelight, saying: “Sign of a true artist when you let the singer take the spotlight, despite how gifted he is. True partnership.”
