In the heart of Cebu, Philippines, a remarkable story unfolded just a day before Christmas.
Blacky, a local dog, persistently barked and chased after a motorcyclist passing through Magkagong, a mountainous area in Sibonga.
Intrigued by Blacky’s unusual behavior, the biker, Junrell Fuentes Revilla, decided to investigate.
Following the dog, he was led to a startling discovery in a grassy area near a dumpsite.
Junrell’s curiosity turned to shock as he found a newborn baby boy, wrapped in a brown towel, with part of his umbilical cord still attached.
Without hesitation, he scooped up the infant and rushed to the nearest police station.
The authorities quickly took action, placing the baby under the care of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office.
This extraordinary event caught the attention of local media and animal welfare groups, who began a search for the heroic dog, Blacky.
Initially, it was believed that Blacky was a stray due to his frequent visits to the dumpsite.
This assumption led the animal welfare group Hope for Strays to embark on a mission to rescue him.
However, they were in for a surprise.
Upon reaching the site, they learned that Blacky was not a stray, but had a home and a loving owner.
The founder of Hope for Strays, Gea Ybarita, was determined to find and provide a forever home for Blacky.
But the story took an unexpected turn when a man approached them, revealing himself to be Blacky’s owner.
He introduced himself and led the group to his home, where Blacky and his furry siblings resided.
Blacky’s owner, Lyndon Olingay, shared his life with ten dogs.
Despite facing financial challenges, he was committed to caring for his pets.
He expressed to Gea,
“No matter how hard life is, even though I’m poor, I feed all of my dogs and take care of them well.”
This heartfelt statement was shared on Hope for Strays’ Facebook page, showing the bond between Lyndon and his dogs.
People wanted to help reward the hero dog and his family.
Moved by the story, another animal welfare group, the Pawssion Project, organized a fundraiser to support Lyndon and his dogs.
The community’s response was overwhelming, with donations pouring in to assist the family without straining their limited resources.
The generosity of the community was evident in the donations received.
Hope for Strays facilitated the delivery of over $180 worth of groceries, two sacks of rice, more than $90 worth of pet supplies, and an additional $90 in cash.
This outpouring of support stemmed from Blacky’s heroism.
The dog’s brave act not only saved the life of an abandoned baby but also brought unexpected blessings to his family.
It goes to show how incredible animals are, and how it can be very important to trust their instincts.
