After their dog Bear ran away, Kelly Thomas and Ted Kupferman thought they’d never see him again. But thanks to two Good Samaritans and a microchip implant, Bear got to go home just in time to celebrate Thanksgiving with his family!
Bear ran away when Ted accidentally rear-ended a car while on the highway. The accident scared Bear, and he ran across the highway and into the woods. Ted spent the next twelve hours scouring the woods looking for Bear, but he had no luck. Devastated, he went home without his best friend.
For the next two years, Kelly and Ted had no idea where Bear was or what he was doing. But thankfully, two women had seen him and begun caring for him.
A year after Bear disappeared, the women saw him in an auto parts yard. They began leaving food out for him twice a day. They tried to catch him, but he always ran away when they approached him.
With the help of a local animal rescue group, they built a pen to catch Bear. They put food inside to lure him in, and they were able to trap him. The rescue group saw that he was microchipped, and they used that chip to find his owners.
A day later, Bear was brought back to his house. Kelly and Ted were eagerly waiting for him, and they cried tears of joy during the reunion. They were so excited to have their sweet pup back home where he belonged.
“I’m still crying over it,” Ted said in an interview with USA Today. “This was not just a dog. This was my best friend.”
Bear’s story shows just how important it is to microchip your pets. The microchip can be the key for reuniting you with your furry friend!
