Everybody, meet Barry.

Even though Barry the Gloster canary isn’t extremely popular on Instagram just yet, he’s definitely well on his way to becoming an internet superstar.

He currently has over 10,000 followers.

Of course, his follower count grows substantially every single day.

And who could blame people for wanting to see this cute bird on a regular basis?

“I’m the bird with the fringe.”

That’s what his Instagram bio reads, and just a quick look at the pictures definitely tells you everything you need to know.

Gloster canaries actually have an interesting history.

They’re the result of some very selective breeding that has gone on for decades.

As you might expect, they, in fact, originate from within the Canary Islands, but definitely don’t just appear in the wild. Barry is a so-called Corona Gloster canary, which features a rather crested head.

There are also Consorts Gloster canaries around, and their heads are usually a lot smoother.

With the former type, these kinds of ‘haircuts’ definitely aren’t uncommon, and they’re actually quite reminiscent of The Beatles once you take a closer look.

These animals generally aren’t very sociable, especially in regard to humans.

They don’t really care for much interaction, although they will definitely make their voice heard whenever they feel like it.

The breed is known to sing a lot and with a ton of power and emotion, making them a very popular bird breed.

Barry’s owner still recalls the first time he saw Barry at the pet shop.

“On the 26th of July we went to a pet shop to look for the perfect bird,” the bird’s owner said to Bored Panda. “We came back on the 27th and thought he was definitely the one!”

“We believe he is 1 and a half years old but we have no proof (Glosters can live 7 – 12 years),” the owner added. “There are two types of gloster canaries, one being consorts they are the ones without the fringe and the others are coronas with the fringe and it’s pretty obvious which category barry falls under!”

Can you imagine the cuteness when you see this bird walking around parks?

“Barry absolutely adores going out in his bird carrier. We will walk around parks and fields and he will tweet and hop with excitement. He also loves sitting on the window still and singing.

When the owner started posting Barry’s pictures on Instagram, they had never expected that Barry would be seen by so many strangers!

Even the thought of crossing a thousand followers seemed impossible, and now he’s already followed by a tenfold.

“I never expected to exceed 1k followers but we love and appreciate every single one of Barry’s followers!”
