Outdoor security cameras of the residents have been catching a homeless dog that has been wandering around the neighborhood. However, nobody stepped up and extended a helping hand to the poor dog.
Thankfully, a rescuer from the Three Little Pitties Rescue learned about the story of the helpless dog. They wasted no second and immediately rushed to save the neglected pooch from the street.
Upon arriving at the area where the stray dog usually hangs around, they discovered the horrifying condition of the poor creature.
The dog, who they named Abel, was almost bald all over, covered in small patches of wounds, and thin to the bones.
His horrendous state left the rescuers stunned and heartbroken, knowing that nobody from the neighborhood had the courage to attend to the poor dog.
According to one of his kindhearted rescuers, Abel was one of the saddest dogs that they have ever seen. That’s from the thousands of dogs and cats that they have rescued in the past.
One could immediately tell how heartbroken Abel was.
The poor dog wouldn’t interact even with his rescuers; he rarely responds, he wouldn’t look at people, and he was always aloof to almost everyone.
He was in good hands at the Three Little Pitties Rescue; he was given medication, care, attention, and, most importantly, genuine love.
Abel’s cold shoulder started to warm up after several weeks when he started showing his tail happily wagging. He met his other fellow rescue dogs and instantly bonded with them easily. His fellow rescue dogs made him realize that he was in a safe place.
Soon after, Abel started to gain weight, his fur began to grow back, and that wall he had eventually vanished like thin air.
Abel started being a real dog again, playful and not scared to interact with humans. He became more comfortable being around his rescuers, and the trust in his heart slowly began to build up.
Sadly, when he was almost ready to be with his new potential family, something strange happened to Abel.
One day, he just started coughing and throwing up, which eventually escalated to him having trouble breathing and losing of appetite.
With all the symptoms, they realized Abel had distemper. It is caused by the canine distemper virus (CDV), which belongs to the Morbillivirus genus.
Canine distemper primarily affects the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and nervous systems of infected dogs.
The virus is typically spread through airborne droplets from infected animals’ respiratory secretions or by direct contact with contaminated surfaces. Puppies and unvaccinated dogs are particularly susceptible to the disease.
They were forced to quarantine Abel and had him isolated from the rest of the dogs. In fact, they weren’t sure at all if he was going to survive or not.
With a hopeful heart, they didn’t give up on Abel and did everything to the best of their ability to help him get through it.
Even his new potential owners didn’t give up on him and prayed for his fast recovery. They kept in touch with the rescue facility and asked for every day updates about Abel.
He knew he had to survive not only for his new family but ultimately for himself.
Thankfully, Abel started drinking, eating, and feeling better.
He returned to his healthy state, and it only took a few weeks before he was ready to be transported to Vancouver, Washington, where his new family was waiting for him.
Abel finally met his new forever family and started enjoying his new home and his new dog brother, Wally, who looks exactly like him.
Abel and Wally bonded so quickly as if they’d known each other for a while.
Abel was exactly where he was meant to be, and his rescuers couldn’t be happier with how life has turned out for him.
