Pitbulls have reputations that many are learning is false. They are often portrayed as beasts that have no impulse control and can’t help but attack people. Television shows and personal experiences are now showing people that the breed is wonderful, even with the strengths and weaknesses they may have. One pitbull named Abigail has a beautiful story of redemption and hope. This is the story of how she became a princess!

The stories of the heroic things dogs have done are like things out of movies! Waiting for their owners in the same spot for days at a time, rescuing their humans from a robbery, and hundreds more like that. Pitbulls are one of those breeds with willpower like steel.

Abigail was rescued from a dogfighting ring in Florida.

Dogfighting still happens and it is a brutal and disgusting practice that is illegal in the United States. Sadly, people still engage in it through secret gatherings and meetups.

When the rescuers found Abigail, she was in rough shape.

Abigail was found with scars across her entire face and body. She had infections in wounds on her neck and face and her ear was missing. Unfortunately, Abigail was used as a “bait dog” in the ring. Friends of the Dog says:

A bait dog is basically a punching bag for game (fighting) dogs. Except we all know that dogs don’t punch, they bite and tear. Dog fighters use bait dogs to let their game dogs practice mutilating another dog, without being harmed in the process.

After some incredible work by some people who cared, she made a full recovery.

Abigail got the treatment and care that she needed! She was taken to a foster home and has been living it up ever since. One of the cutest things ever is that she has some headbands to cover her missing ear! After getting her picture posted with her fashion pieces, she blew up on social media.

Her foster mom made a Facebook account and was given a forever home by Megan and Jason Steinke.

The couple already had another rescue dog and were happy to add Abigail to their home. After some time, someone DM’ed the Facebook page and wanted to hear about Abigail. The person who Dm’ed them? Disney!

Disney+ wanted to feature Abigail in one of their new shows.

In a new show called It’s a Dog’s Life, they wanted to use Abigail as the newest Disney Princess. This beautiful little pup went from the lowest point a dog could be and became a Disney Princess!

“She’s going to be the newest Disney Princess,” Megan Steinke told I Heart Dogs. “It’s just been so inspiring to see the impact a dog can make on people, and really advocate for the breed of Pit Bull, and help rescue dogs. Rescue dogs aren’t broken. They have so much love to give, and Abigail is an example of that.”
