If you’ve clicked on this article for some heartwarming footage of a baby kangaroo taking tentative hops, you have come to the right place.
The video below takes place at the Kangaroo Sanctuary in Alice Springs, in Australia’s Northern Territory.
The young orphaned six-month-old joey named Bradley shyly hops towards Chris ‘Brolga’ Barns, the carer he has imprinted on at the sanctuary.
At first, cute adorable Bradley seems a little camera shy, but when he comes into the video, he is a scene stealer!
Just look at the way he leans on Chris. It’s too cute for words!
That baby joey trusts Chris with his life. What a pure relationship.
Bradley isn’t the only joey that Chris has worked with. As a Kangaroo expert, Chris rescues joeys whose mothers are tragically killed.
Poor Bradley’s mother was struck by a car. In the past four weeks before this video, Chris carried Bradley around in a fabric pouch to simulate what Bradley’s mother would have done.
Chris remarked how joey Bradley responds to his body heat, feeling safe in the security of the fabric pouch.
Chris’s wife, Tahnee Passmore-Barns, also helps run the sanctuary.
She shared that Bradley is allowed out of his pouch and jumps around the couple’s homes for a few minutes a day every day to build his strength.
I would absolutely love having Bradley hopping around my house!
However, Bradley won’t stay small and adorable forever. Eventually he will grow up to a fully grown kangaroo, and adult kangaroos can be big.
A large male kangaroo can be 2 m (6 ft 7 in) tall and weigh 90 kg (200 lb). Can you imagine being face to face with that?
But in the meantime, Bradley will be treasured and cared for as he continues to grow. To learn more about Chris’s sanctuary, click here.
