We all know that nature is not too kind for some animals, even for small animals who cannot take care of themselves yet. This brings us to this baby deer who was abandoned by its mom in the woods. Luckily, the deer found a woman in the woods who was kind enough to answer the deer’s call.
A woman was running through the woods and found a baby deer
Somewhere in North Carolina, Amber Starr decided to go running through the nearby woods. That was when she coincidentally met a tiny fawn crying aloud. The baby deer saw the running woman, and the deer’s first instinct was to run towards her.
Apparently, the fawn was missing his mom, and Amber was very concerned about him. Amber was just shocked to see the fawn suckling on her foot. Despite how Amber was telling the fawn that she was not his mom, the baby deer just kept on trying to suckle on nothing; the deer might have been left there too long that he got hungry.
Amber went home too worried for the baby deer.
Amber went home after her run, but she could not stop thinking about the hungry, little deer she left in the woods. It was already nighttime, and she could not have a moment or even a nap with all the worried thoughts in her head, so she decided to have someone accompany her so she could go back to the place to check if the fawn was still there.
Sadly, when they arrived, the fawn was still there and still no sight of its mother. She knew for a fact that a doe would leave its offspring behind to forage for food, but the sight of the hungry deer was simply too heartbreaking for her.
She had to find some ways to help the baby deer
Since the fawn was hungry, Amber tried to find something to feed him. Unfortunately, it was a hard time for everyone with the pandemic, but she tried her best to improvise to help the baby fawn back on its feet.
She grabbed a rubber elastic glove, filled it with a formula, and then poked a hole on one of its fingers so the deer could suckle on it. Amber was just so happy as she wrapped the deer with her arms as it was feeding on the milk. Afterward, they would lull the fawn to sleep on a comfortable bed.
The animal rescuers came in after a couple of days.
Amber and her family contacted the wildlife rescuers about the deer but didn’t hear back from them at first. Even though they only had him for a short time, they already became attached to him and Amber decided to name him Scout. They all had fun taking care of baby Scout, but they eventually had to let him go.
After a couple of days, the Turner’s Deer Camp Fawn Rescue came to their home to take Scout to their shelter. The shelter was planning to raise the deer until it was capable enough to be independent before they release it back to its natural habitat. Thanks to Amber and the Fawn Rescue staff, this was all made possible. Hopefully, little Scout will prance back into the wild in the future.
