As you can see, birds make very good pets for families. Some birds are better than others, though, for families who have young kids.

According to The Spruce, parakeets are one of the best birds for kids to have as a pet. These birds don’t mind being handled, making them a good choice for babies. They’re also chatty, which young kids are sure to love.

Cockatiels are another good choice for babies and young kids. These birds can learn tons of tricks, including talking and whistling. They like being out of their cage, and they’ll enjoy running around the house with kids. Be sure to give them a balanced diet that includes vegetables, fruits, and seeds, and make sure to change their water bowl daily.

Finches also make good pets for families. These birds have lovely little singing voices that will light up every room they’re in. It’s a good idea to get two finches so the birds will have a companion.

Unlike parakeets and cockatiels, finches can’t be let out of their cage, so if your little one is looking for a bird they can play with, finches might not be the right choice for them.
