This real-life Dr. Doolitttle has managed to charm hundreds of animals. Who knows how long she was parading animals before this footage came to light?
One morning, Dilara Ilter was staying with her parents in Istanbul, Turkey when she heard something strange.
It was a bunch of animal noises. So she looked outside of the apartment window and couldn’t believe her eyes.
A woman was walking down the street with hundreds of animals in tow. There were dogs, cats and birds all loyally following her.
Dilara tried to alert her parents about what was happening, but they were unconcerned. For them, it was a regular occurrence. In fact, the woman had been parading the animals down that street ever since the parents had moved in.
Dilara’s parents knew very little about the woman. She wasn’t from Turkey, that was for sure.
And without fail, she and her animal friends would parade down the street every other day, with her feeding them along the way. But apart from that, they could give no more information.
Luckily, Dilara had been filming the scene as it unfolded.
She then uploaded the footage of the strange woman and her animal friends walking down the street to her Twitter page. The video soon went viral.
To date, it has gained over 1.4 million views. It also has more than 14,900 likes, 3,100 retweets and 100 comments. People have been saying things like this:
Much later, Dilara was staying with her parents again, and the woman was still parading the animals to the same schedule. So Dilara recorded her again.
This new footage showed that the woman lovingly fed the animals as they marched along.
Still, it was amazing to see the dogs, cats and birds all living in harmony as they walked down the street. Clearly, the woman had a gift.
The woman remains mysterious. She apparently speaks little Turkish, meaning that she can’t easily communicate with those she passes by.
Just think, she probably has no idea that she’s a viral sensation. Clearly, she just wants the animals of Istanbul to live happy and healthy lives.
One thing that’s for sure is the people of Istanbul are happy that she’s feeding these animals. Turkish people are animal lovers who often help out the strays of their cities.
In fact, during the coronavirus outbreak, the Turkish government has even stepped up its animal welfare programs. In April 2020, with citizens staying home and feeding strays less, Turkey’s government ordered its councils to, “bring food and water to animal shelters, parks, gardens, and other areas where animals are found.”
Of course, it is a shame that there are so many stray animals in Turkey to begin with. Istanbul alone has over 160,000 stray cats and 128,000 stray dogs.
The people of Turkey can’t take in all of these animals, but they often do what they can to ensure that they are fed.
People in America may be surprised to hear that the people of Turkey are animal lovers.
This fact doesn’t exactly fit in with the stereotypes of the Middle East. But it’s true. There are countless stories online of Turkish people helping cats, dogs and other animals in their country.
In fact, many places around the world could learn from Turkey’s care for stray animals.
