Maybe you opened your door to a very eager salesperson, or a visit from that annoying family member that you’d rather not see, leaving you instantly wishing that you’d have checked out of your window whilst you had the chance!
Well, for one woman living in South Carolina, it was lucky that she was able to see exactly who was on her doormat when her doorbell rang — or this could have been a very different kind of story.
Karen Alfano had only recently moved to a new home in the Myrtle Beach Golf and Yacht Club when she spotted something that stopped her dead in her tracks.
The New Jersey-born woman was heading to her new home when she spotted an unlikely visitor who seemed intent on welcoming her to the area. This visitor was perched on none other than her welcome doormat and seemed to be waiting for Karen to make an appearance.
It was an alligator, and he seemed pretty determined to make friends!
Karen instantly reaches for her phone and begins to film the whole thing. The alligator lurks in front of the property door for a few seconds, before actually getting up onto his back legs and ringing the doorbell. He uses a set of shelves next to the door for support, and then points his nose up towards the doorbell and gives it a ring!
Now that’s something that we’ve never seen an alligator do before.
It was incredibly lucky that Karen was on the other side of her door and was witnessing the scene from afar. We’re not sure how we would have reacted if we opened the door to find an alligator sitting outside!
Alligators quite often make appearances in South Carolina, though we bet this is the first guy to ever ring a doorbell before! We can imagine this is going to take Karen quite some getting used to since moving to the area.
In fact, alligators are so common around here that representatives at the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources are requesting that community members don’t call them if the alligator is smaller than five feet, as apparently the younger ones pose no threat to humans.
After encountering such a scary surprise, we bet that Karen now takes a quick look out of her window whenever somebody rings the doorbell! Let’s hope that her next few months in South Carolina go a lot more swimmingly (sorry).
