Alligators are some of the most common predators in Florida, and with their bites proven to be one of the strongest in the animal kingdom, we think that it’s totally natural for people to want to keep a safe distance away from them. For most people, this would involve staying as far away from lakes as possible- as these are known to be an alligator’s preferred habitat.
But for those thrill-seekers among us, the fear of an alligator popping its head up and making a grab for you can cause a great rush of adrenaline – and if that sounds familiar, then you may want to consider paying a visit to Gatorland.
Situated over 110-acres in a Floridian wildlife preserve, the theme park promises a whole host of fun in “The Alligator Capital of the World.” And why wouldn’t that include a zip line that skims right over the surface of an alligator-filled lake?
A few years ago, the big bosses at Gatorland decided that they weren’t simply content with the fear factor that they already provided in the theme park, and wanted to amp up the heebie-jeebies just a little bit more. To do this, they decided to build a zip line over one of the lakes in the park that was home to a great number of alligators. And one unfortunate (or fortunate – depending how you look at it) member of staff was lucky enough to be one of the first to test the zip line out.
To commemorate the new ride, another member of staff took a video of their workmate taking the ride on the zip line- and we bet they weren’t expecting to capture what they did! The video was posted onto YouTube by Dear Roman, and shows the woman jumping from the podium and riding the zipline down across the river. But as she glides downwards, barely skimming the surface of the lake, her presence seems to have attracted somebody out of the water.
That somebody turns out to be a huge alligator, and as the woman glides across the wire above him, he leaps out of the water with impressive height and lunges towards the woman!
Luckily, the wire is at a safe enough height that the woman won’t be bitten, but the sight of an alligator jumping out of the water towards her is enough to give her a bit of a fright, and she can’t help squealing as the alligator surfaces.
Although we were scared just watching the video, like all good work colleagues, the woman’s workmates seem to find the whole situation hilarious – and they can’t stop laughing as she enters the podium. This zipline experience obviously comes hand in hand with the slight chance of being lunged at by an alligator, so we can tell you now that it’s not for the faint-hearted!
Over on YouTube, people took to the comments to share their thoughts on the video, with one person saying:
“Hope that zip line never breaks.”
Another joked:
“Someone get her new shorts.”
Although this video gave us a scare when we first watched it, we have to admit that the idea of taking a ride on this zip line is growing on us! Watch the video for yourself below and let us know in the comments if we’re not the only ones.
