For many, rats are viewed as pests and not pets. However, one dedicated photographer is attempting to break the negative stereotype against rats through a series of photos, designed to highlight their cuteness.
Diane Özdamar used her own rats and even her friends’ pet rats to create a series of photos that are meant to show that rats can make perfect companions for anyone.
Özdamar has this to say about her pictures in her original post:
They [rats] are actually highly intelligent social beings that love interacting with each other and their favorite humans. They are very friendly, smart, playful, they love cuddles and are very clean: many rat owners agree to compare them to tiny dogs.
We compiled 15 of our favorite shots – check them out down below.

Thanks to Özdamar and her photography, rats are beginning to be viewed as lovable pets. If you’re interested in adopting a rat, be sure to check your local shelter – more rats than you might think are abandoned every year and are in need of a good home. Özdamar suggests to adopt two rats of the same sex to give your new buddy a friend for when you’re not around.
