Although tons of dogs and other pets have a very warm, welcoming and loving family, the same unfortunately can’t be said for every pup out there.
When Maria got pregnant, her old owners weren’t interested in taking care of her or covering for the medical expenses needed. There was a slight issue with the pregnancy and it turned out that a C-section would be needed to deliver the babies in a manner that wasn’t overly risky.
At that point, her owners – dog breeders that were running a mill – simply chose to abandon her. Left behind, wandering the streets all by herself. Luckily, Maria was found in the streets before she had to give birth and was quickly brought to a couple of veterinarians.
They immediately found out that Maria was dealing with a severe infestation of fleas, leading to anemic symptoms. The vets even started worrying about her life as she wasn’t only dealing with infection, but was severely weakened because she had no supply of food or clean water for months. The rescue came just in time.
Against all odds, Maria came through. No malnourishment, exhaustion or fleas could stop her from delivering seven very healthy and adorable puppies. After Maria gave birth, she wasn’t physically strong enough to run around yet, but she did manage to spend some time with her newborn puppies in the midst of recovering from her injuries.
Maria’s strength and determination to be with her puppies make this a truly remarkable story. Thanks to months of efforts by vets and trainers, Maria was even able to fully walk again by herself. And although she may not ever be in optimal physical condition again, the smile on her face when she’s with her children is all that matters.
Maria and all of her seven children are now flourishing in new loving homes.
