Coyotes welcome abandoned puppy into pack and accept him as their own
Ghost lived with the pack of coyotes for over seven months after his owner dumped him in the desert.

An all-white dog had been spotted wandering in the open desert in Las Vegas for months before it became necessary for volunteers to catch him and take him to a shelter.

You see, the dog was probably abandoned when he was a puppy, and, while everyone thought he was dead, he was found and raised by coyotes like one of them.

The local coyotes for some reason accepted him- if not made him their leader- and included him in their pack.

“It seems like he may have been put out there between seven and eight months and somehow or another, the coyotes just accepted him,” Susan McMullen of the Southern Nevada Trapping Team explained to FOX5.

The dog, named Ghost, stayed up all night just like his mates did in order to hunt their prey and survive.

And it was fine. Obviously, having a dog live among coyotes is not the most common sight, but there was also nothing wrong with that until Ghost got hurt.

“He was actually just running with them and eating with them, but then he started to limp, and we were afraid limping that the coyotes could turn on him,” McMullen shared.

Although Ghost was a member of the pack until then, given the fact that coyotes have a particular interest in dogs- whether that is seeing them as a threat or potential prey- they were considering the possibility of the wild animals attacking the injured dog.

So, that’s when locals started looking for Ghost and tried to spot him and hopefully find the route he normally followed every day.

This would make catching him so much easier.

But it seemed that every time someone was close to getting him, he’d just disappear. Honestly, Ghost just stayed true to his name.

A couple of weeks later, they managed to lure him into a crate and that’s how they trapped him.

“When he got into that crate…. He just sat down. I think he was also relieved,” Timi Zondiros, McMullen’s partner said.

Although he had survived among the coyotes for a long time, his survival had been earned.

Indeed, Ghost didn’t come without any scars.

It was obvious from the scars that he’d been involved in fights, while he was also found to have an ear infection, eye infection, and skin issues.

Moreover, vets concluded that his scrotum needs to be removed entirely, and a broken toe needs to be amputated.

On top of everything, they found some rocks in his stomach, which probably meant that he’d been so hungry he ate whatever he found around.

His rescuers are hoping he’ll be just fine.

But how does a dog who was used to living in a coyote pack react when he sees people?

Surprisingly enough, the shelter staff said he is as friendly as a dog can be. He enjoys human company, he wants to be petted, and he’s not aggressive at all.

When his health allows it, and after he receives proper training, he’ll be ready to be adopted and live his best life with his human family!
