Your cat loves you. They love spending time with you, they love the affection they receive from you, and they also love that you feed them and clean out their litter box. There are many things that cats do to show us how they feel.
We’ve put together some of the ways cats express love below.
The Smoldering stare
Cats sometimes like to just stare at the people they love. If you find that your cat often just sits and stares at you, consider it a compliment. A smoldering stare from your cat only means that you are the most important person in the world to them and they want to learn as much about you as possible.
Long slow blinks.
Long slow blinks are a sign of affection in the cat world. If your cat looks at you and slowly closes its eyes and opens them back up again it is a sign that they love you. You can try doing the same back to them.
Making loving sounds
Those happy and loving sounds that your cat makes sometimes are a sign that they love spending time with you. Sometimes cats get so happy that their body involuntarily lets out a happy sound. It is likely how much they love you that makes them feel this way.
They tolerate you.
This might not sound like the most loving thing cats do but the way they tolerate our ridiculous behavior is definitely evidence of love. Cats probably think we are big, clumsy, and way too comfortable picking them up and swooping them into odd positions. That they don’t scratch our eyes out when we do this is a sign of affection.
Head butts
Nothing says your cat loves you more than them ramming their head into yours. Somehow, this has become the most standard expression of affection in the feline world. If your cat does it to you it means they love you very much.
Kneading
You’ve perhaps noticed that your cat will sometimes “knead” on you as if they are preparing dough for a pizza. This is something they do with their mother during their kitten years. If they do it to you it is a sign that they are comfortable, consider you family, and love you very much.
Bringing you gifts
If your cat kills a bird and then drags it through the house to give to you, it’s a sign of love, even if it is a disgusting sign of love. What a cat is doing is trying to help out the family when they do this. They see you as the head of the team and want to contribute as best they can. Their heart is in the right place, even if the end result is a dead bird on your pillow.
Showing you their belly.
Cats showing you their belly is a sign that they are willing to be vulnerable with you. They just listened to a Brene Brown podcast and want to take your relationship to a deeper level. Either that or they just want you to give them some belly rubs!
Acting like they own the place. Your place.
You might think you are the head of your household but you’re not, your cat is. The fact that they let you live in their home is perhaps the greatest sign of love cats show their humans.
