Forget about Michael Scoffield and Lincoln Burrows. The main character of this story will not only amaze you with his escape tactics but will melt your heart, too.

We’re talking about this cat named Quilty.

And this little fella will give all your prison-breaking idols a run for their money because Quilty is wise, fast, and easily gets away with it.

The shelter he was in caught this 7-year-old cat’s naughty antics.

Friends for Life Animal Rescue and Adoption Organization in Houston rescued Quilty in 2012. He’s always been an indoor cat, yet apparently, he loves to go out more – especially if it involves escaping through doors.

Quilty doesn’t escape alone.

He likes to let the other cats escape, too. Sometimes, one cat at a time, or all together! His crazy antics just keep the shelter’s Feline Manager busy chasing them around. (But it’s just Quilty most of the time.)

It started with this post.

The other cats enjoy those times when Quilty sets them free at night. However, the staff is not too pleased to see the remnants of their night-time wrangling when they come back to the shelter every morning.

They tried their best to confine him.

Yet, this escape artist of a cat always finds a way to free himself, and sometimes, barges in meeting rooms. We think he has a feeling that they’re talking about him.

But don’t get it wrong, though. The cats in the shelter are actually free to roam in the cat rooms. It’s THAT specific room that Quilty opens and escapes from. Turns out, roaming freely in a room isn’t enough for Quilty.

Since then, a lot of netizens found this amusing and started the #FreeQuilty movement.

The movement became so big that they started creating merch for it!

And the shelter created an Instagram about @free_quilty.

The hashtag, along with #QuiltyNotGuilty, allowed people to engage with whatever updates the shelter has of this mischievous cat. People enjoyed Quilty’s “escape-pades”. The shelter’s Facebook page and its sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek tone with their posts is also something that the people love.

According to Jennifer Hopkins of Friends for Life, it’s also their way to engage with people and encourage them to adopt.

And that’s exactly what happened to Quilty.

Despite going viral because of his rebellious attitude, he adored so many that there were many inquiries about adopting him.

A few days after, Quilty got adopted.

This saddened a few people who’ve been following his story through social media but knowing that he found his forever home now gives them as much joy. After the one-week trial period, Quilty’s adopter sent this update:

“He is already so much a part of our family that even in this short time, I can’t imagine him being in any shelter without a bed to snuggle in and people to spoil him (even though your shelter is awesome!).”

We just hope that he doesn’t feel so confined that he has to escape. As for the shelter, they only wish for one thing, that after Quilty’s successful adoption people will continue to support their cause and opt to adopt cats instead.
