One day, a sweet cat with damage in both of her eyes was brought into the Arizona Humane Society. To save her life, the staff had to remove her eyes, blinding her for life. After she had recovered from her surgery, the staff named her Justice and put her up for adoption. They hoped that this sweet girl who had been through so much would find the perfect forever home.

It turned out, they didn’t have to wait long to find the right home for Justice. Eight-year-old Britta Bergeson was browsing the Arizona Humane Society’s website when she stumbled across a photo of Justice. It was love at first sight, and Britta knew she had to convince her parents to adopt the cute cat.

To show how much she already loved Justice, Britta drew pictures of her and the cat having fun together. In one of the picture, she drew herself hugging Justice. In a speech bubble, she wrote, “I love u.”

After seeing how much their daughter wanted a cat, Britta’s parents agreed to take her to the Arizona Humane Society. When they got there, Britta only wanted to see one cat: her beloved Justice.

The shelter staff placed Justice in Britta’s lap, and Britta burst into tears. Justice was just as excited to see Britta—she snuggled right up to her and purred!

“It was just an instant love connection,” Vanessa Crues, adoptions supervisor at the Arizona Humane Society, told The Dodo. “She got pretty emotional, and she was crying happy tears, like ‘Oh my gosh, she’s everything I thought she would be.'”

To Britta’s delight, her parents agreed to adopt Justice. After they left the Humane Society, they decided to give Justice the perfect new name. “We were in the car headed home and [Britta] mentioned renaming her Lucky,” Shay, Britta’s mom, told The Dodo. “Then she said, ‘We are lucky to have her and she is lucky to have us!'”

Since they got home, Lucky and Britta have been inseparable. For the first two days in her new home, Lucky hid in Britta’s room and stayed on her cat bed. But after she got more comfortable with the house’s layout, she began exploring the other rooms.

Now, Lucky knows the house well, and she enjoys following the Bergesons as they get ready in the morning. She also loves snuggling up on the couch with them as they relax and watch TV. Shay shares all of Lucky’s adventures with her family on Instagram.

“She is the best, most sweet cat we have ever owned,” Shay told The Dodo.

Thanks to Britta’s determination, Lucky has found the perfect home with a wonderful family. This little family is truly as lucky as can be.
