It’s that time of the year again.

Summer brings about many outdoor activities that have a way of bringing everybody together. Unfortunately, this year is going to be a lot different than the summers that many of us have come to know and love.

This year, the world faces a pandemic that prevents us from having those beloved BBQs and outdoor pool parties with family and friends. But when all else fails, the internet is here for you to get you through these tough times.

Albeit, the internet can be unpredictable, it does host numerous videos that can uplift our spirits when we need it the most. For example, who doesn’t love to see toddlers smiling out of pure joy and animals being kind to one another?

The latter is definitely a sight to see, particularly when the animals onscreen have a reputation for not getting along very well.

Unless you’re interested in birds, you might be surprised to discover that hummingbirds don’t take very kindly to one another. It can be quite a shock simply because the gentle buzzing sounds that their tiny wings make is enough to rock one to sleep.

To many, they represent a sense of tranquility and peace.

In one rare video, hummingbirds were captured harmoniously sharing a pool together. There were 30 hummingbirds in and near the water. Some dunked their heads for a quick sip. Others buzzed around, diving in and out of the water as they pleased. But many of them enjoyed their time just relaxing.

The area of the pool looks serene and as peaceful as one might imagine. It’s stationed in nature and is surrounded by plenty of grass. Though it’s difficult to tell what time of day it is because the area is shaded.

Though it isn’t clear exactly where the video was taken, the video is listed under “wildwingsla.” However, there are almost 340 species of hummingbirds and many of them can be found throughout the Americas. Though most live in the tropics, some live in the desert and the United States.

Known for their incredibly fast flapping wings and their hard to catch flight patterns, they are also the only vertebrates capable of sustained hovering and can fly backward and upside down as well. Their wings beat at about 70 times per second during direct flight and 200 times per second when diving.

These are some wildly impressive birds!

In addition, they can fly at 30mph but reach 45mph when diving. Utilizing all of that energy works up quite an appetite. Their diet includes flower nectar and at times, smaller insects.

In fact, because hummingbirds are at the mercy of the flower season, competition is relentless. They are very territorial and show aggression towards other hummingbirds (and others) when they think their food source is being threatened.

Hummingbirds will fight at length to defend what they believed to be theirs. Ironically, all of this fighting requires energy, thus continuing the competitive cycle. However, some hummingbirds do live amongst one another, particularly in the tropics.

Luckily for us, this video captured just how agreeable they can be when they don’t feel threatened. Then again, the caption of the video includes, “You’d never know they will be harassing each other in five minutes’ time…”

Well, it was good while it lasted! You can watch the full video below!
