Lee Asher has been an angel to various stray dogs for quite some time now. He’s the epitome of the campaign, “adopt, don’t shop.”
When he was younger, he was bullied at school for having learning disabilities to the point where he ran away from school. And he came into a dog shelter where he found himself visiting the shelter every day. He made a promise to himself that one day, he’s going to save all the stray dogs locked in the dog shelter.
And so he did.
He quit his 9-to-5 job to travel all around the country, adopt dogs, and promote dog adoption and rescue.
“In this family of misfits, what we have is unconditional love.”

Lee said that the dogs in The Asher House really helped Tony feel at home. They are one of Tony’s strengths and motivation to push his limit towards the 100-pounds fitness goal.
Penny first broke the ice with Tony. This chihuahua jumped right away on Tony and never left his side.
Tony’s personal dog trainer.
Bo has been Tony’s best buddy when it comes to being fit and healthy. He is the ultimate dog trainer. Whenever they’re out for some run, Tony tries his best to keep up with Bo. According to Lee, Bo motivates Tony in every single way he can. That’s what friends are for, right? Kudos to you, Bo!
Lillie – the apple of Tony’s eye.
Not only did Tony find a home in The Asher House, but also he met his “girlfriend,” Lillie. The two dogs are inseparable, and as per Lee, they always have to be together touching each other.
Aside from that, Lillie boosted Tony’s confidence that he can do it. She joins him workout – may it be running around or climbing up the stairs.
Tony’s road to fitness.
Lee and Tony are both determined to reach that goal for Tony’s benefit. With him being fit and healthy, he may prevent heart problems, hip, and joint issues. To top that up, the whole gang can resume traveling across the country with Tony as a reward! Lee wanted to make sure that Tony is perfectly fit to travel when The Asher House starts traveling once again.
Here’s the German Shepherd’s progress after several weeks of training and exercise with the whole gang:
2 weeks later – 147 pounds
1 month later – 123 pounds
2 months later – 115 pounds
When he reached the 115-pounds mark, Tony has the go signal to join the whole crew in traveling. And look how happy he is to travel for the first time with his new-found family. Way to go, Tony!
They went to San Diego and it’s Tony’s first time at the beach. He indeed had a great time sunbathing and swimming with his fur friends!
After which, they went on to different places, and every time they’ll have a stopover at a certain place, Tony’s running around, experiencing new activities while losing weight and having the best time of his life. They went to Del Mar, Colorado, Utah, and Oregon. These dogs are such a travel goal to beat!
Down to the last 2 pounds.
Tony is so near finishing the race, and this dog rescuer had a brilliant idea on how they can cut some pounds. In order to achieve their goal, Tony and Penny are going to run across the Brooklyn Bridge.
He successfully crossed the bridge and he still wanted to continue! Whoa, Tony, you got some stamina over there! Tony and Penny were rewarded some ice cream for doing a job well done. But the question is, did Tony reached his goal?
Achievement unlocked!
Yep, Tony made it! There are no more pounds to lose as he lost more than 50 pounds! He’s currently 99 pounds and everyone’s proud of Tony! Lee and Tony paid a visit to the dog shelter where Lee rescued Tony, and the staffs were all proud and happy how Tony has been. They can’t believe that this was the Tony they have several months ago. They also said that Tony looked so good.
To make a life better.
“Rescuing is so beautiful because you saved a life. Rescuing is a pretty way to see what love and life are about.”
That is Lee’s goal for every stray dog. And he hopes everyone will do the same. There are lots of dogs that need to be rescued. It really hits differently when you adopt a dog and know that you saved a life.
