This little guy is one of the worst cases of matting KC Pet Project had ever seen.
An abandoned Shih Tsu in Missouri was struggling to survive when he was found with over 6 lbs of matted fur. The heroes at KC Pet Project swooped in to save his life with emergency medical grooming that resulted in an astonishing transformation.
The condition he was in was shocking.
“He weighed 20 lbs whenever he arrived. He is an 11-year-old Shih Tsu…they’re not supposed to weigh 20 lbs.” – A representative from KC Pet Project told Good Morning America. The team had a lot of work ahead if they wanted to save this little guy’s life. They named him Simon and went to work quickly to take off the clumps of matted hair.
His tongue may have saved his life.
KC Pet Project representatives found out that Simon liked to stick out his tongue. “Simon is very well known for his tongue always sticking out and so that’s how the person who found him recognized that he was a dog underneath all that hair. Even afterward he just stuck his tongue out all the time and was just a happy, happy little dog.” – KC Pet Project
It’s a miracle he survived.
KC Pet Project knew how hard it was on Simon’s tiny body to carry all that extra weight. They said it would be difficult for Simon to regulate his body temperature.
A tiny survivor.
“It’s hard to do just anything…hard to eat or go to the bathroom. We have no idea how he did it. So this little guy is a survivor and really beat all of the odds to get to the point where he is today.” – KC Pet Project
A tiny butterfly comes out of his cocoon.
Shedding all that weight had to have felt good! The rescue group noticed that his stride was off and that he had to figure out how to walk again. His story went viral and was featured on Good Morning America. He had immediate fans all over the world. One person wrote, “In the beginning, I saw a dog trying to be happy but struggling, and at the end, I saw a happy dog who is finally free.” Another person wrote, “Thank you for taking care of this poor Baby! God Bless you!”
Simon gets adopted!
After being at the vet clinic for over a week, the sweet pooch was adopted by a loving family with three other Shih Tzus. They named him Logan and the rescue center is happy to report that he loves his new family and is ‘very loved, very spoiled.’ – Good Morning America.
Coming out of his shell.
At first, Logan was a little hesitant to venture out of the closet and preferred dark corners to hide. However, after a month he began to feel more comfortable with his forever home.
Logan has a bright future ahead thanks to those at KC Pet Project!
