Socializing isn’t everyone’s strong suit.
Imagine having to go to a company event where you can’t hide behind the walls of your cubicle and your colleagues close in for a much-avoided small talk?
Or maybe you’re in college, and beer pong and frat parties are just not your thing. You could’ve planned to spend your night watching Netflix, but your roommates successfully dragged your introverted butt to the party, and now you’re in between two people shouting at each other.
The funny thing is that we are not alone in these cringy interactions.
A dog owner shared on TikTok the answer to questions that we could just imagine. Can dogs be awkward? And if so, what would they look like if we put them all together in a meeting?
The Swedish woman brought her dog Qila to socialize with other dogs. And the other dogs? Well, they’re as introverted as Qila.
The meetup was excruciatingly awkward but super adorable!
The dogs of varying breeds and ages just stood there. They just stood in their own spots without moving because they don’t know how to “dog” around other dogs.
At one point in the video, Qila’s owner said that it felt like they were standing in a pasture of cows. No barking, no sniffing of behinds – no one’s even chasing their own tail!
Qila’s owner mentioned that the meetup was arranged by a dog psychologist who advocated the importance of proper socialization.
It was a result none of us expected, but many of us needed to see.
But can dogs be really introverted like humans? The science isn’t as solid yet, but according to a study that analyzed behavioral data from over 15,000 dogs, there might be a possibility.
The dogs, while technically of the same species, displayed varying levels of personality traits, including playfulness, sociability, and shyness.
Qila’s owner suspects that her dog’s introversion stems from trauma.
Qila was found on the streets of Sochi, Russia. She was pregnant then, which led to speculations that her previous owner “disposed” of her because she had puppies.

She was said to be “really afraid and insecure” when she was rescued. When she was adopted by a couple in Sweden, Qila was fearful of her new environment.

Every dog is different but it can be comforting to know that our introverted dogs are not alone in feeling this way.
People shared how amused they were at the “world’s most awkward dog meet”.
They pointed out how the dogs tried their best to avoid eye contact and some of them laughed at the fact that it resembled how they socialized when they were younger and more awkward.
“This is a grade 8 dance acted out by dogs and I’m here for it,” one commenter said.
“This is my coffee break at the IT department,” said another comment.
But the best of all is the one that speaks what we’re already thinking most of the time when we’re at work: “This could have been an email.”
