Jimmy the cat is a cute, mischievous kitty who loves wandering around his neighborhood. The cat often roams around for hours at a time, and he’ll visit the neighbors and hang out in parked cars. The cat usually comes back after he finishes his business in the neighborhood.

In September 2014, Jimmy asked to go outside, and his family let him out. They expected to hear him meowing in a few hours, asking to be let back in. But Jimmy never appeared.

Jimmy’s owner, Susan Marotta Zelitsky, was devastated when she realized her 13-year-old cat had gone missing.

Zelitsky, her husband, and her kids hung up flyers all around the neighborhood, hoping someone would have a lead on where her beloved cat had gone. Weeks and then months passed, and Zelitsky didn’t hear anything. Finally, she gave up hope that Jimmy was ever coming back.

Zelitsky had no idea about Jimmy’s whereabouts for two-and-a-half years. But then, in March 2017, a miracle happened.

Zelitsky was scrolling through her local animal shelter’s Facebook page on the day after a blizzard. As she scrolled through the page, she noticed a post about a stray cat that had been brought into the shelter after the storm.

For a moment, Zelitsky stared at the photo in shock. The cat looked exactly like Jimmy!

Zelitsky contacted the shelter, and they told her to come in. She went with her neighbor, who was also close with Jimmy. As Zelitsky approached Jimmy’s shelter, she was nervous. What if it wasn’t Jimmy? Or, if it was, what if he didn’t recognize her?

Thankfully, Zelitsky had nothing to worry about. The cat was Jimmy, and he was so excited to see his long-lost owner!

“As soon as we opened the cage I asked him, ‘Jim, is that you bud?’ And he walked over and head-butted me and I just started crying,” Zelitsky told The Dodo.

Later that day, Zelitsky’s husband came to see the cat. The cat greeted his dad just as lovingly, and it was clear he had missed his parents so much!

“We are over the moon,” Zelitsky said. “It’s the greatest story ever and almost too good to be true … but it is!”

Jimmy is now sixteen, and he’s doing great. The cat still loves hanging out with his parents and the family dog more than anything else in the world.
