A woman was driving down the road near her home in Watertown, New York when she spotted an anxious lost dog.

The good Samaritan pulled over and approached the nervous Rottweiler mix. The woman tried to get the dog to come into her car, but the dog wouldn’t stop pacing and whining.

When the pup realized that the woman was trying to help her, she led her to a tied-up pillowcase.

As the woman watched, the pillowcase started moving. The woman immediately untied the pillowcase, and she was shocked when she found twelve newborn puppies inside. Their umbilical cords were still attached—it was clear they were just born, and the Rottweiler mix was their mom.

The good Samaritan rushed the mama dog and her puppies to the Jefferson County SPCA. When a vet tech at the SPCA, Amy Wonderly, saw the dog and her puppies, she started crying.

“Raven led this woman to a pillowcase that was tied off, that had her babies in it,” Wonderly told WWNY TV.

The vets quickly treated the pup, who they named Raven, and her babies. Sadly, one of the babies didn’t make it. Thankfully, though, the other eleven puppies only had fleas, which the SPCA was able to quickly treat. Now, the eleven puppies and their mom are all doing well and are starting to recover from their ordeal.

Since this story received so much news attention, the SPCA has already found great homes for all eleven puppies and Raven!

The puppies will stay with their mom until they’re seven to eight weeks old, and then they’ll all go to their forever homes.

For now, the pups are in a foster home with a kind woman named Brittany Conklin. Conklin was shocked when she heard about Raven and her puppies, and she quickly volunteered to look after them.

“It makes me feel like that person doesn’t have a heart,” Conklin told Spectrum News. “I mean to leave a mamma dog and puppies on the side of the road. Puppies can’t fend for themselves in a pillow case.”

Conklin says Raven is still a bit anxious, but she’s starting to relax more as she gets comfortable in Conklin’s home.

The Jefferson County Police Department are also investigating this incident, and they’re hoping they’ll be able to find the cruel person who abandoned these puppies and their mom. Raven didn’t have a chip or collar, and the police don’t have any leads yet on the dog’s former owner.

“They’ll start an investigation, so we are urging people if they do have any information, if this dog looks familiar, they might know who the dog belonged to, to call dispatch,” said Spezzano.
