When little Ollie the kitten was just one day old, he was found abandoned outside a grocery store. A kindhearted person picked Ollie up and took him home. Then they contacted a cat rescuer they knew, and she agreed to take him in.
When Ollie arrived at the cat rescuer’s house, she examined him in and found he was in surprisingly good shape.
The kitten was hydrated and seemed healthy. The cat rescuer, who goes by CaliCatLady101 on Imgur, put out some blankets, and Ollie happily fell asleep. Unfortunately, though, in the middle of the night, his health took a turn for the worse. His stomach was upset, and he quickly got dehydrated, which can be deadly for kittens who are so young. CaliCatLady101 rushed him to the emergency vet, where he received the treatment he needed.
Thankfully, Ollie quickly recovered from his ordeal, and he went home with CaliCatLady101 the next day.
Ollie spent most of his time sleeping, and he managed to fall asleep in some very strange positions. It always made CaliCatLady101 laugh when she saw this.
At twelve days old, Ollie opened his eyes for the first time. CaliCatLady101 was so happy to see him achieve this huge milestone!
“The eyes had been opening little by little over the past few days, but at 12 days old they finally opened fully, and Ollie gave this happy little dazed look of a happy and full baby,” CaliCatLady101 wrote on Imgur.
Soon, Ollie had passed the important two-week mark. CaliCatLady101 had learned from her vet that kittens who make it past two weeks will most likely survive. She was so happy that her little kitten would be okay!
Over the next few weeks, Ollie kept growing and growing. Soon, he couldn’t fit in his favorite spot—CaliCatLady101’s shirt! He started perching on her shoulder instead.
“When Ollie discovered that he was no longer able to be tucked in to shirts, or held constantly, he reverted to sitting on shoulders instead. If you sit down in my house, or even walk by a shelf, you may end up with a curious, clingy kitty on your shoulder,” CaliCatLady101 said.
When Ollie was about three months old, CaliCatLady101 started thinking about keeping him permanently. She had been planning on simply fostering him and then adopting him out, but she had fallen in love with him and didn’t want to let him go.
And so, CaliCatLady101 officially decided to adopt her rescue cat. It was clear Ollie belonged with her.
Ollie is now three years old, and he’s doing great. CaliCatLady101 sometimes fosters cats, and Ollie always does a good job looking after them. He also still enjoys perching on his mom’s shoulder!
When Ollie was first left at the grocery store, his chances of survival were slim. But thanks to a kind rescuer, he has now found a great forever home!
