Wanda Kaynor and her husband, Daniel, are used to wild animals wandering around their Evanston, Wyoming, property.
They just love the area because they’re able to enjoy the peace and quite it offers, while random wild animal encounters make them feel blessed to live in the nature.
However, a couple of days ago, there was an incident with one of the wild animals that hang out in the area around their home that made them reconsider.
You see, Wanda and her husband were ready to leave home and head to an appointment Daniel had, but they suddenly bumped into a buck.
Their encounter was far from friendly, and their doorbell camera captured the whole thing on video. What followed is just scary.
The woman can be seen stepping outside and, just like that, a buck appears out of nowhere, looking disoriented and in distress.
That’s when the family pet, a tiny black pup, runs towards the buck and tries to fight is off. The buck fights back, and the dog hides under the car.
“He went after him. Of course, the buck didn’t like that. So, he went after him with his antlers and shoved him underneath the car,” Daniel told KSLTV.
The dog owner, who was obviously confused and terrified at the same time, tried to protect her pet by distracting the wild animal.
“She threw her hat at the thing, and of course, it came after her now,” the man recalled.
Indeed, the buck attacked the woman by pushing her to the ground with his antlers. The woman couldn’t stop screaming.
That’s when her husband appeared and caught the wild animal by the antlers trying to push it away. The buck managed to injure him, as well, before a UPS driver and a neighbor arrived for help.
The UPS driver, who just happened to be around after he’d just delivered a package across the street, put the woman inside the car, while a neighbor drove her to the hospital.
“It happened so fast,” Daniel, who is grateful to the people who helped them, said. “We just got instantaneously all of this help.”
The woman, who is still in the hospital, is recovering from seven puncture wounds and a crushed vertebra in her back.
Daniel got punctured by an antler along his waistline, but he’s fine.
The couple is traumatized by the experience and Wanda will need to spend some time at a rehabilitation center before she returns home, which she’s looking forward to.
After the incident, the wild animal hung out in the couple’s yard for a couple of hours before someone notified Wyoming Fish and Game. An officer arrived and put the animal down, which is a common practice after a dangerous encounter with humans.
The incident has caused controversial reactions.
Some people admit that they’d have done what Wanda did if they were in her shoes, while others criticized the woman’s reaction.
“She endangered herself and her disabled husband by reacting the way she did. Should have just turned around and went inside,” someone wrote, while someone else commented: “Poor little deer, all she had to do was go into the house and call her dog to also come inside.”
