One beautiful sunny day, Sara Nisevic opened her door and let her precious pups outside to take care of business and scamper about the yard, burning off energy and having some fun frolicking around.
This daily routine, however, ended up turning her life topsy turvy when her dogs dragged home a visitor. But in the end, it was a match made in heaven.
Sadly, millions of animals are dumped or abandoned every single year in the United States. All of a sudden, a pet finds itself left on a gravel road to wander about alone and frightened, searching for shelter and food.
Or a pet is ditched at a shelter, no longer loved and wanted. It’s heartbreaking!
When Sara checked on her pups to make sure they were safe and having fun, she discovered they were running around with a little brown dog she’d never seen before. Her curiosity piqued, she closely observed the trio for a bit.
The stranger seemed to have been readily accepted by her brood and they were drawn to the mysterious dog. But where did this pup come from?
She didn’t want to interrupt their playtime, but decided to check it out.
“As soon as we went out to say hi to the dog, he ran towards us and started asking for pets and kisses. I felt an instant bond with him and knew that this was our dog.”
They named the adorable dog Strudel, but knew they needed to at least search for his owners before becoming too attached to the doll. Sara made inquiries, posted about Strudel online and had him checked for a microchip.
Sadly, no one came forward to claim him as their beloved lost pet. But that was great news for Sara and her family because now they could fully envelop him into their fold and adopt him.
Not once has the family regretted welcoming Strudel into their family. He’s been on his best behavior since the first day he popped up in their yard and fits right in.
“Strudel is very polite and was polite from the second we met him. “When called to come inside, he was hesitant at first, but as soon as he was in, he made himself right at home.”
It was clear Strudel’s unknown past wasn’t positive. He craved a bond and affection. He instantly latched onto Sara’s older rescue dog Srna.
To help foster their relationship, Sara created a large dog bed the pair could share. Srna instantly allowed Strudel onto her cushion.
“Since then, they’ve slept in that bed together every night.”
The pupper shows the family how much he loves them every single day. Of course, he does so in funny ways.
“He loves to lay with you in the bed and cuddle. Outside he is very playful. He is always bugging his big sister Srna to play, biting on her legs since he’s so small that it’s the only thing he can reach.”
Strudel found the perfect family for him as they embark upon numerous life adventures together. Not a second goes by that Strudel doesn’t realize just how loved he is.
“The future for us and Strudel is a lot of camping, traveling, going to the river, and a lot of his favorite food — which is every food, as far as we can tell. Honestly, we knew Strudel was our dog the minute we saw him.”
This family proves that sometimes you don’t pick the dog, but the dog picks you. Sara and her family know firsthand the joy of the perfect pet finding them.
