Since so many of us have been stuck inside due to quarantine, a lot of folks have decided to make the most of this time and do something creative!
Some people have been writing poetry or stories, others have made amazing art, and one wonderful woman decided she’d like to do something extra special for her pet guinea pig.
She decided to create a guinea pig-themed art gallery! Introducing, The Piggenheim Museum…
Teresa Michelle is the amazing lady responsible for this cavy creation.
She was inspired by other artists and creative people doing fun things during lockdown, and when her boyfriend was taken to hospital for a non-COVID-19 emergency, she was left home alone, trying to find something to fill the time.
She decided that her guinea pig, Maisie, could use a little culture, so set to work creating her very own guinea pig museum. The results are simply amazing!
Teresa created a whole bunch of paintings for Maisie to enjoy, taking inspiration from classics of the past like the Mona Lisa, The Treachery of Images, and The Scream and remade each one with guinea pig characters and new names.
She also took the time to make beautiful golden frames for each of her artworks, hanging them up all along the hallway.
She says that she took a lot of inspiration from the Met and similar galleries:
I kept thinking about the Met in New York City. The creaky hardwood floors and tall ceilings. Heavy gold frames. That’s what I tried to emulate as I created the Piggenheim.
The museum is filled with cavy-sized recreations of all kinds of classic works, featuring everyone from Pablo Picasso to Roy Lichtenstein.
Each one was lovingly crafted by Teresa, and it’s clear that she put a lot of effort into preserving the look and style of the original piece, while adding a guinea pig-friendly touch to them all.
It’s such a fun idea, and Teresa says that working on the museum helped her to get through a tough time.
So what did Maisie think of all this? Well, once the museum was all set up and the paintings had been placed on the walls, Teresa set her little friend free to explore!
It turns out that Maisie definitely has some unique opinions on art.
She seemed to take great interest in some of the works, but was less impressed by others, as Teresa explains:
She spent time at each miniature work of art. Maisie nibbled on the frame of the Kahlo. I’m not sure if that was her saying she liked it or hated it. She was also very intrigued by the Lichtenstein and the Magritte. She did not seem to care for the Picasso because she chittered at it a lot!
Teresa enjoyed watching Maisie roam around the museum, and she snapped some photos and videos of the experience too.
Check out the video below, showing the making of the museum and Maisie enjoying it!
