Cats
Woman moves into new house but as she starts to unpack realizes she’s not alone
Turns out the house already had an occupant living there and she’d claimed the house for herself.

Usually, if someone wants a cat, they can go out and adopt one from a shelter or animal rescue.

They can also get a kitten from a neighbor with an unexpected litter or even a breeder with a very expected litter of kittens. Occasionally, we even inherit older cats from our friends and family.

But that is not always the way it works out.

Sometimes, a cat comes along and adopts you.

That seems to be the case when it comes to Giselle and one very adorable cat with tortoiseshell markings.

A new home

Giselle Bodin Lyons purchased a house and was beginning the process of slowly moving her stuff into her brand new (to her) home. However, it turns out that the house may have already had an occupant before she got there.

That wasn’t in the paperwork!

The woman had been moving things to the new place one carload at a time. Her old home was only a twenty-minute drive from there, so Giselle was working on making moving an enjoyable task instead of the chaotic all-in-one-day one that it often is.

And a potential new roommate

As she was beginning to unpack a few things in the garage, she began to realize that she wasn’t the only one in the house. There was someone else in there with her.

There, hanging out on top of the water heater and giving her a very puzzled look, was the occupant of the home. The resident cat was probably wondering what on earth she was doing in her (the cat’s) garage.

As it turned out, the cat was friendly and hung around, inspecting each and every item, as she unpacked her things and began to make the house into a home.

The thing about cats

After seeing the post, others on Facebook shared similar stories.

It seems that moving into a house before you do is just something cats tend to do.

“When I was a kid, a house we moved into came with a big cat that the previous owner said was wild and would never come near them. He was one of the best cats! Let me dress him in baby clothes and push in my doll stroller! That big baby let me do whatever to him as long as I was giving him some loving!”

Kirstyn Davis joked:

“Ah yes, the cat comes with the house, it’s a package deal. If you buy a house today, you will get a free cat.”

Still there

Giselle figured that the animal probably belonged to a neighbor. She didn’t think too much about it. But each time she came and brought more boxes, the cat was still there to greet her and spend time with her.

It was like the feline had come with the house.

She started to leave food and water out for the friendly cat.

Always welcome

The cat was still there each time she returned. It seems they would be sharing the home. Giselle isn’t new to stray cats. She actually works with an animal rescue organization in her area. She knows cats, and she knows that sometimes cats adopt you instead of the other way around. And Giselle is happy to be adopted. The tortoiseshell cat has her chosen home and a new owner.

This is one tale with a happy ending.
