We all want to provide animals with a place to live.
Whatever type of animal it is, we can welcome them in our homes, especially if there’s enough room for them.
A little research on their natural habitat would do, then you can recreate it to give them the proper shelter.
Yes, even amphibians and reptiles (although they’re not your typical pets).
But what if the animal was the one who invited themselves into your home?
Maybe it started as seeking shelter on your patio during a heavy downpour or finding food in your yard.
Animals can be creatures of habit, and when they get used to your home, they become constant visitors.
So, what do you do about them?
This woman on TikTok thought that it was finally time to give her daily visitor a home.
TikTok user @OwnedByPickle, aka The Caretaker, showed in a series of videos the progress she’s made for a toad hanging out by her back doorstep for three years.
That’s quite long for an animal to keep visiting a stranger’s home, so she found a way to make him more comfortable instead.
She started by buying a few items in the dollar store to build the toad a home.
The Toad Abode was made of a paint tray, with a tiny pot she designed with waterproof stickers, mulch, marigold seedlings, and a little dish with some stones.
She also placed a small lamp in the corner.
At first, the toad only stayed in the water dish and had no interest in the rest of the space.
OwnedByPickle made a few changes in The Toad Abode to make it look more appealing to her door toad.
She replaced the seedlings at the corner since the toad always stepped on it and placed a small pot of succulents instead.
She also added coconut fiber and more stones that she laid out like a pathway.
The toad loved her newly renovated home and has had some friends come over.
Toadling season came, and The Caretaker and The Door Toad weren’t sure if they would want to stay in The Toad Abode, so she created a separate Toadling Hydration Habitat Instead. And it worked!
This video series earned so many views and followers that OwnedByPickle started asking for name suggestions.
There were many names to choose from, but she shortlisted it to a few: Jade, Jelly, Doora, Doorean, Dill, Agnes, and Tilly.
The Caretaker placed all the names on separate sticky notes and let the toad jump to her preferred name.
She hopped, took a few steps, and chose her name.
The Door Toad then became Doora!
Her adventure continues as OwnedByPickle updates her TikTok account on Doora’s whereabouts, including her late-night wanderings and bringing home guests for the night.
She even added to the main Toad Abode to accommodate Doora’s guests.
It didn’t have much décor, but she only wanted to create more space for toad guests to stay in.
Aside from dirt and coconut fiber, she included a succulent plant and two dish baths for the toads.
Doora wasn’t too fond of it, though; she still loved her original Toad Abode.
