If you were to ask 100 dog owners if they’d do anything to make their pets happy and safe, 99 of them would respond with a resounding “YES.” After all, pups love unconditionally, they never judge, and they do what they can to protect their human family.

10-year-old Bodhi

At 10, Bodhi is a gorgeous dog, He lives with his owner, as well as several other canines including 13-year-old George, 10-year-old Sam, and 4-year-old Emery. Sonya Karimi, who lives in New Orleans, loves all of them to pieces. They’re family.

An injury

Unfortunately, Bodhi suffered a torn knee ligament. That made climbing up and down the stairs nearly impossible. But she also had two older pets that also struggled. So, she needed to find a solution.

Rescued animals

As a bona fide animal lover, Sonya rescued Bodhi. Now, he needed help and she had to figure out how she could make his life easier. But here’s the deal, this woman works as a licensed physical therapist. So, she put on her thinking cap during her time in isolation due to the coronavirus.

A brilliant idea

After a lot of thought, Sonya decided to make some kind of stairlift for Bodhi. Hey, people use them all the time, so why wouldn’t it work for her beloved pet? She just had to figure out the best option.

Fast learners

While the stairlift was made specifically for Bodhi, it didn’t take any time for all her dogs to understand this device was to help them. As Sonya stated, “They’ve adapted to is so quickly. I thought I’d have to train them for a while to get used to it but they just get on it as if they’ve had it for years.”

Additional insight

Sonya continued, “The two older Pugs love it especially — they won’t use the stairs, they will sit there and wait until the ride is ready for them and it’s so cute.” Now, not only does Bodhi use his special stairlift but also the ones that don’t even need it.

More like a game

To all four of her dogs, getting to ride up and down the stairs is like a game. While they’re all doing amazingly well, the youngest, four-year-old Emery, seems to like it the most. He actually enjoys going up and down this way rather than walking.

The process

But to get to this point, Sonya had to spend a full three months creating this doggie stairlift, or elevator, if you prefer. Once the pups get inside of the wooden box, she clicks a remote control. Instantly but slowly, it takes them to the top or bottom of the stairs. Once it stops, they jump out…it’s that easy.

She had a little bit of help

Although the stairlift idea was Sonya’s, her fiancé, Zach, along with his parents, pitched in to help. The result was magnificent. This doggie stairlift works far better than they could’ve imagined.
