She thought it was a lost cat.

If you found somebody’s pet outside that was potentially in danger, we’re sure that you would do anything to help. So when a woman in Richmond, Virginia found a cat trapped between her fence, she thought she was doing the right thing by bringing it into her house.

Only things weren’t quite as they seemed. The well-meaning woman posted some hilarious photos onto Craigslist and sent the internet into meltdown.

According to the woman, the cat was stuck in between her fence and was “screaming it’s head off.” Naturally, she decided to rescue him, but once freed from the fence, she decided to go one step further and take him inside. He was quite a big guy so she could tell he wasn’t a stray, but she was still worried about the dogs in the area that could potentially eat him, so thought it was best to take him out of harm’s way. She said:

‘I brought it inside because it looks too big and healthy for a stray and dogs here escape often and will eat cats that get out. It is very thick and has little stripes and spots on its legs and big white round spots on the back of its ears, only thing that looks wrong with him is he doesn’t have a tail but it doesn’t seem like anything new.’

But once inside, the cat started behaving in a very unusual way.

The cat seemed intent upon trashing the woman’s house, but she valiantly kept him inside while she searched for the owner. She said:

‘He is very vocal ( and mean!!!!) I think he is a tabby and bengals mix maybe some Maine coon because he is just so big and chubby. I took most of these pics last night so the lighting makes him look brown but he is actually more gray. He was very hungry.’

She then posted some hilarious pictures showing the cat climbing the furniture, picking up household objects in its mouth, and just generally causing chaos.

The woman’s appeals seemed to become more desperate, as she wrote:

‘Please if u r his owner contact me ASAP i can not keep him here because as cute as he is, he is CRAZY and has gotten into everything in the house in 1 night and is EXTREMELY AGGRESSIVE!!’

She added that she would have to take him to a shelter if the owner didn’t come forward soon, as she had ‘Almost lost my fingers this morning trying to pet him’ and he had been ‘growling and hissing all morning.’

‘He is just a big grouch,’ the woman concluded.

Immediately after posting her ad onto Craigslist, the woman’s inbox was flooded with people telling her that the ‘house cat’ she’d taken in was actually a wild bobcat. These cats are around twice as big as the average household cats and are pretty aggressive hunters, and they are actually able to kill animals much bigger than themselves.

As soon as the woman noticed her error, she immediately let the cat back out and thanked everyone who had been in touch with her. She said:

‘Thank you to everyone who told me this is actually a WILD BOBCAT!!!🤯 Wtf!!! No wonder he was so grumpy!! I kidnapped him!! 🤣 I am not from America and have never heard of bobcat, I thought all wild cats are much bigger than that!! I can not believe I brought it inside!!’

She added:

‘I have let him go already back near the trees where he came from, and he was not hurt or injured at all so do not worry!! I am also okay, no bites or scratches!!’

We’re glad that this cat is now back out in the wild where he belongs, and full credit to the poor woman who thought she was doing the right thing!
