Most people will often think twice about getting another dog when you already got one.

Not everyone would feel the same, especially if their space and resources were limited. Our responsibility as dog owners is to provide for their needs and give them the best life possible.

Doing that for one dog is already challenging for some. But if you have space for more than one, you will definitely want a companion for your beloved pooch.

Brianna learned about a pittie rescued by Wags and Walks.

She went to the shelter to check on the poor dog. There she saw Opal, the rescued pittie with many injuries, including her jaw. It was crooked and swollen, exposing her tongue from the side.

Brianna never thought twice. She asked the shelter if she could foster her and take her home. After a few checks with the vet and making sure her injuries were treated, Opal had a temporary home to stay in.

Despite her situation, she was a very resilient dog.

Brianna recognized the energy and love Opal gives off to her family despite having her jaws wired and need to wear a muzzle. She greets them with eagerness packed with lots of hugs and kisses.

The shelter never knew what happened to Opal. But judging by her injuries, Brianna thought that probably Opal was a stray dog who got hit by a car. She was happy that Wags and Walks rescued the dog and gave it a second chance.

That’s when Opal met Duke, Brianna’s pitbull.

Both dogs were fenced off since Opal was still recovering from her injuries. However, it was apparent how they were happy to meet each other. Their tails were wagging, and they frequently “talked” to each other by the fence.

At one point, the two would whimper and whine whenever Opal was caged. Brianna knew that she had to let them play with each other one day and would just have to wait.

Luckily for the two buddies, their wait wasn’t that long.

Brianna gave in and finally removed the fence that divided Opal and Duke. She was worried about her injuries, but Duke showed he would be careful with precious Opal. And, boy, did he prove her right!

The two spent time snuggling next to each other or playing around. The only sad thing was Opal could see Duke playing and biting with toys, but she couldn’t because of her muzzle. Duke probably felt that, and he always attempted to bite and remove it from Opal’s jaws. Of course, Brianna would tell him off.

After five months, Brianna got a green light from the vet to take off the muzzle.

When they returned home, Opal and Duke immediately ran around and played! They saw Opal’s true personality – a fun-loving, active, goofy dog who loves to play around. Of course, with Duke alongside her.

Brianna realized that Opal had become “Duke’s dog” and didn’t want to take her away from him.

They decided to adopt Opal on Betty White’s birthday!

Why Betty White? Brianna said they always joked about her being their “little old lady.” And why not, right? After all, Betty White was that “little old lady” that brought happiness out of people, and Opal is precisely like that.
