As the number of animals needing forever homes continues to climb, various organizations have come up with ways to promote them. One such case involved a television station in Edmonton, Canada. While the gesture was nice, the pup that weatherman, Mike Sobel, decided to do the weather segment with had his own idea of how to get people’s attention.
Such a sweet boy
Working with the Edmonton Humane Society, Mike wanted to pitch in to help a part Mastiff dog find a loving home. Initially, everything seemed under control. Mike had a dog named Ripple on a leash as he began to report frigid conditions across Edmonton.
Making the introduction
When organizations do their promotions, most dogs are shy. But not Ripple, he has a huge personality to go with his large body size. Within just a few seconds of starting his report, Mike learned that this pup was not only loving but also playful.
An independent guy
As hard as Mike tried to stay focused on the weather, the more independent Ripple became. With the dog holding onto the leash in his mouth, the weatherman first tried to get him to sit. Well, let’s just say that wasn’t going to happen and as Mike becomes a little flustered, he calls the dog the wrong name several times.
His favorite toy
After not following the “sit” command, Mike again turns his attention to the weather. With the leash still in his mouth, Ripple comes up with a brilliant idea. Unfortunately, it didn’t mesh well with a weatherman trying to report the weather.
Tug of War
It didn’t take long for Ripple to show Mike that he wanted to play a game of Tug of War. So, the two pulled on the leash a few times. Again, the weatherman thought he had the dog under control…yeah, not so much.
Determined to win
You could say that Ripple was taking the game a little too seriously. While Mike gently pulled on the leash, the dog gave his pull everything he had. And as a large pup, it didn’t take a lot of effort to almost knock the weatherman off his feet.
It’s a laughing matter
At least Mike took everything in stride. Even though Ripple was clearly the stronger and more determined of the two, all the weatherman could do was laugh. While you don’t hear it on camera, there’s no question that others in the newsroom were holding back.
Becoming more challenging
As the weatherman’s time in front of the camera continues, everyone can see that he’s having a hard time controlling Ripple. Keep in mind, it was all in fun, not that this pup was behaving poorly. Through it all, Mike kept calling out temperatures and forecasts.
Is it almost over?
Those are the words you can imagine going through Mike’s mind. As an animal lover, he wants to do everything he can to find Ripple a good home but at the same time, do his job. Just when he thought the dog had calmed down, things changed again.
You’re on your own, buddy
Somehow, Ripple got the leash out of Mike’s hand. So, the weatherman quickly took action to grab hold of it to keep the pup from running off. That’s when the entire news crew busted out laughing hysterically and who could blame them?
In the meantime, this sweet boy appears oblivious to the fun yet chaotic scene he created. Well, here’s some great news. According to Global News, Ripple has now been adopted.
