The video has been viewed over 26 million times, and it’s no wonder people loved it.
This 8-minute video shows how this mama bird prepares to hatch her egg, all in 46 days.
A Blue Tit has a blue cap on its white head with a black stripe across its eyes.
Their feathers are a combination of yellow, blue, and black – with the blues on its wings and fade to the tip.
The British Trust for Ornithology keeps track of the Blue Tit and its nesting and birthing habits.
According to Hazel McCambridge, the Scheme Administrator for this online Blue Tit diary, an expecting mama bird starts to look for a safe place to lay her egg in February. A perfect location must be inaccessible from predators and must have a clear flight path.
From this, it will take them around two weeks.
But this one took almost seven weeks to build her nest. She wants everything to be perfect and just in time to lay her first egg.
Watch the full video below and witness this mama Blue Tit’s journey.
Day 1: The Blue Tit is just exploring.
You can see this mom-to-be going around the cage and just exploring it. We can imagine she’s picturing out her nesting place for her baby.
The next few days, she was all hustle.
From the second to the eighth day, you can see her bringing in and out some leaves and grass. It was only on Day 9 that the Blue Tit was starting to form her nest, adding more organic materials each day.
Slowly, she incorporates other materials such as twigs and feathers.
In just 45 days, her nesting place is slowly becoming warm and comfortable. You can see that the leaves are thick enough to create a cushion and lay safely and warm enough to hatch.
On the 46th day, you’ll notice that the bird is staying put more.
Aside from the fact that her work is done with her nest, she seems to be laying still in one corner. She’s also doing this action where she seems to be peeking or looking down underneath her.
Lo and behold, she laid her first egg.
According to studies, once a Blue Tit starts laying an egg, she lays one each day until her clutch is complete. A Blue Tit’s clutch can have up to ten eggs.
Here’s also a fun fact about Blue Tits.
If they find a suitable mate, the male Blue Tit will help her take care of the eggs after laying them. During the stage when she incubates them, she’s starting to use more energy, thus, the need for more food.
It is the role of the male Blue Tit to find food to eat.
This responsibility goes on until the eggs hatch. Both the male and the female will look for food for all their chicks until they grow big enough to hunt for their food.
And this video shows us how wonderful nature is.
That with just its beaks and claws, a mother’s love can do anything for her babies even before they were born. And yes, the father loves them equally, too.
