In February 2013, a homeowner in Garland, Texas found three abandoned kitten brothers living under their front porch. The homeowner quickly brought the tiny cats to a local veterinarian, Dr. Rick Hamlin at Mercy Veterinary Clinic.

Hamlin had just opened his clinic a month before, and he was thinking about adopting a cat to have around the office. When these three brothers came in, Hamlin knew it was meant to be.

Since the cats were office cats, Hamlin’s daughter said they needed “office worker names,” so Dr. Hamlin chose Carl, Roger, and Larry.

The three kitten brothers quickly settled into their new home. All three cats have very unique personalities:

“Carl is our resident bad boy and will not yield an inch to dogs,” Hamlin told The Dodo. “Larry is notorious for taking things out of women’s purses.”

And Roger? Like another famous orange cat, Roger just can’t keep his hands off of people food.

“We offer donuts to our clients on Saturdays and we have to keep Roger from stealing them,” Hamlin says.

Even though Carl, Roger, and Larry love their home, they know that other cats and dogs are scared by the vet’s office. So, they help comfort the other animals during their appointments.

“Larry and Roger love a crowd of people and pets. They will visit clients and pets in the waiting room and will jump on the exam table to visit with patients during exams,” Hamlin says. “They all love to crawl inside other animals’ carriers.”

The three cats also do many other important tasks around the office. They’ll often help Dr. Hamlin with the filing.

They also assist when the veterinarians are grooming other animals.

The cats also do the all-important job of inspecting the garbage cans to make sure they’re clean.

The three cats have now been at Mercy Animal Clinic for over five years, and they’ve loved every second of it! There are always people and animals for them to greet. And if they’re tired, there are plenty of places they can nap around the office.

Roger, Larry, and Carl are also regular fixtures on Mercy Animal Clinic’s Facebook page. Hamlin and his staff share tons of photos and videos of the cats hanging out in the office and playing with the patients. They shared a cute video of Roger trying to cheer up a little dog named Carly.

They also shared an adorable video of Larry learning how to use the officer’s receipt printer. He’s slowly getting the hang of it!
