PTSD is a very real consequence that the brave men and women of the armed forces face when they get back home after a lot of action. After experiencing events that no normal person should ever see, soldiers back home will experience adverse reactions to stress.

There are many ways to deal with PTSD. Government organizations, support groups, and even the love of family and friends all make for great channels for these heroes to deal with.

Then you have support dogs.

47-year-old veteran named Sgt. Bill Campbell has Pax to help him deal with his PTSD. The veteran Campbell suffers from memory loss, and fear of crowds. This is where Pax, a yellow labrador, steps in.

Pax has been of great help. He’s such a good dog that Sgt. Bill wanted to meet the trainer of his wonderful companion.

Campbell wanted to express his gratitude and so he met Laurie Kellog.

Sgt. Bill found out that Pax used to live at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility where a number of female inmates took care of Pax. It was a part of the service dog training program.

Campbell began to make plans to meet Laurie, Pax’s trainer, just to show her his gratitude for nurturing Pax. Laurie took it upon herself to train Pax so he could be a PTSD service dog.

Laurie herself, being a victim of domestic violence, suffers from PTSD.

Laurie had a PTSD attack while Pax was still in training with her. The dog helped bring her back from her episode.

Pax really did help!

She recalled how Pax made her feel safe around him. And when Laurie found out that a veteran needed Pax’s help, she was more than happy to help, allowing Pax to help the soldier, who turned out to be Campbell.

It was such a sweet reunion, Pax running and wagging his tail to meet the ecstatic Laurie. They’ve really missed each other!

Laurie and Sgt. Bill greeted each other with a hug. One full of mutual understanding as both suffer from PSTD. Pax got to rest and go on a little break during his visit to the facility too.

A viewer named Jack Sagrafsky commented,

“If you don’t shed a tear watching this video then I feel for you. But I did and the reunion of the service dogs with their trainers is so heartwarming I can’t help but thank God for the gift of our best friends. What a wonderful story for this one dog and the many others that help our military men and women that suffered so much and need the help of these wonderful animals, and their trainers.”
