Unwanted shelter dog gets adopted and months later saves new dad’s life
Brian rescued Sadie and gave her the forever home she deserved. Then one night, she became his hero.

A lot of people believe that things happen in life for a reason. And often, that’s true. Sometimes, you end up making a decision only to discover it benefited you in the long run.

That’s what happened in the case of a shelter dog. People would visit the facility to adopt but time after time, they wouldn’t give this pup a chance. She patiently waited for her turn and then one day, it came.

Shelter dogs make outstanding pets

It’s true, shelter dogs make unbelievable pets. Now, that’s not to say that pedigreed pups don’t just that there’s a unique level of appreciation when a rescued animal gets a forever home. It’s as though they go above and beyond to show how grateful they are to have someone who loves them.

Amazing companions

Experts around the world agree that most of the time, shelter dogs make fantastic companions. Once settled into their new homes, these pups become intensely loyal. Not only is rescuing an animal a great way to fight against puppy mills but you can typically find just about any breed, size, age, and gender you want.

Meet Sadie

Sadie is a gorgeous German Shepherd that immediately grabbed attention but there was an issue. You see, she didn’t feel comfortable around men. And as a large breed, it’s common for them to be rescued more by males than females, which reduced her chance of being adopted.

Things were about to change

Looking for a dog, a man by the name of Brian Meyers visited his local animal shelter. Weighing 100 pounds and with her beautiful black fur, he was drawn to Sadie. Then he learned that because of her fear of men, three other shelters had declined to take her in.

Not deterred

That news might’ve scared a lot of people but not Brian. If anything, it made him more determined to give her the life she deserved. He felt confident he could help her work through her issues. So, he adopted her.

A medical emergency

On a particular morning as Brian started to get out of bed, he fell flat to the floor … he had suffered a stroke. In a dire situation, he was on one side of the room while his cell phone was on the other side. Living alone, he had no way to call for help.

Sadie to the rescue

Realizing that her owner was in trouble, Sadie stayed by his side. That’s when he reached over and grabbed her collar. With every ounce of strength in her body, she slowly pulled him to where his cell phone was located.

A happy reunion

Thankfully, Brian made a full recovery and Sadie was hailed a hero. But it took a few days in the hospital and several weeks in rehab before Brian could return home. As he was wheeled out of the rehabilitation center, he saw friends, family, reporters, and rescue personnel … as well as Sadie.

Unconditional love

That’s what Brian and Sadie have, unconditional love. As soon as this pup spotted her dad, she couldn’t get to his side fast enough. Finally, the two embraced.
