Dogs are very social creatures. As a descendant of wolves, they have a natural instinct for pack mentality.
In addition to that, dogs are also highly emotional and intelligent creatures – especially German Shepherds. Anyone who has ever had a German Shepherd or known a German Shepherd knows what phenomenal dogs they are. They are often trained to become K-9 officers, border patrol officers, U.S. customs dogs, military dogs, and more.
With that said, it doesn’t come as such a surprise that these two bonded German Shepherds below, Gus and Laurie, have captured the internet’s heart.
For all their young lives, these two pups have been together. They’re all each other knows, and all they ever had.
The circumstances around their rescue remains a mystery. The pair were found together at 3 months old taking shelter in a stranger’s barn. At 7 months old, the German Shepherd duo was taken in by Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue in Stephens City, Virginia.
“They’ve only ever known each other. They were found as strays at three months old and have since lived in someone’s barn,”Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue wrote on their Facebook page. “They’re around 7 months old now and we are so hopeful that we can find someone to keep these two together. If you’re looking for a bonded pair, look no further.”
The pictures that the rescue posted of the two dogs stole the internet’s heart. The photos went viral and were shared more than 16,000 times on Facebook.
The body languages of the dog pair say it all. They are there for each other. You can’t have one without the other. Gus watches out as the protector. Shy Laurie needs Gus for her own sake.
These photos serve as a reminder that dogs are just as capable of feeling emotion and attachments as humans are. Whether it’s to another dog or to a human, dogs are incredibly loyal and sweet.
Thanks to their viral fame, many people have gone crazy over these two cuddled up cuties. Tons of people are looking to adopt them. However, the dogs are first being tested to see if they get along with children and cats.
“We have had an overwhelming response to this post. If you are interested in Gus and Laurie please apply at shenandoahrescue.org/adoption-process, These pups are pending cat and kid testing and have arrived to their foster in Virginia,” another Facebook post read.
The shelter is also adamant that the dogs must be adopted together.
“We have been getting a lot of inbox questions about this pair! Let me try to answer them here. The adoption fee is $325 each. They must be adopted together,” Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue wrote on Facebook yesterday. “They just arrived to their foster today in northern Virginia so we don’t know much about them yet. They are not aggressive but are in need of socialization.”
It is unknown whether Gus and Laurie are full German Shepherds or a mix.
