Lonely Kittens In Foster Care Become The Best Of Friends

Last month, in early March, a tiny cream-colored kitten was found inside of a backyard barbeque grill. The family who found the kitten didn’t want her, nor did they know what to do, so the baby was brought to a local rescue and placed with a loving fosterer.

The kitten, who was named Tofu in honor of where she was found, was placed with Melinda Blain, an experienced kitten fosterer.

In a post introducing the kitty, Melinda writes, “This little girl is about five days old and the sweetest thing.”

“Tofu was originally found when a family opened their grill and found her mama and siblings,” Melinda elaborated in an e-mail to our staff. “It was raining that day, so mama likely was looking for a dry place to bring her babies.”

“Mama was feral and ran off, but came back for the rest of the siblings and left Tofu behind.”

Despite Tofu’s rough beginnings, the kitten was in fairly good health. She had a few stomach problems and instances of soft stool, but with Melinda’s devoted care, she started to grow big and strong.

Tofu was doing really well, but there was still one little problem. As a singleton, the kitten was lonely— and she really wanted a friend.

Cue Marvel!

Marvel is another a singleton kitten that Melinda had taken into her care. “[Marvel] came from a litter of seven that was in foster care with their mom, as well, and she was the only survivor,” Melinda said.

“That’s why I named her Marvel! She’s a marvelous little miracle baby!”

Despite both of their rough beginnings, Marvel’s health was a bit worse than Tofu’s.

“She had a urinary blockage that required manual expression of her bladder,” Melinda revealed. “I also had to tube feed her for the first couple of days since she had absolutely no appetite and was incredibly lethargic.”

Luckily, after a brief critical period, Marvel managed to overcome all odds.

“She completely recovered and started having a strong appetite and the loudest little purr machine.”

Because Tofu and Marvel were both singleton kitties who had come from difficult pasts, Melinda thought they’d make the perfect companions.

“I introduced them when they were both a little over three weeks old,” Melinda said.

“They were both the only ones left of their litters and Marvel is only three days older than Tofu, so I knew it would be a perfect match.”

“They were so excited to be together! They became best friends right away and started playing and snuggling with each other!”

Now, the kittens are 5-week-old— and despite having different personalities, they’re still the best of friends. “Marvel is the brave, little explorer with tons of energy, and Tofu is a little more shy with new situations,” Melinda said.

“They both absolutely love playing and snuggling and are total purr machines.”

It will still be more than a month until Tofu and Marvel are ready for their new furever homes— but Melinda hopes to adopt the two best pals out together.

“My plan is to adopt them out together since they are so bonded, and I think their personalities match up very well.”

It’s so amazing that despite their rough start, Tofu and Marvel have bonded together. Now, these singleton kittens are no longer lonely— and they spend every day with their best friend by their side.
