It’s a pretty nervewracking moment when you decide to introduce a new pet to an old one, as you never quite know how things are going to go.
Are they going to get on like a house on fire, or will you have to lock them in different rooms until they begin to tolerate each other’s presence? Will the old pet become jealous of you splitting your attention between them both, or will the new pet become defensive?
There are so many things to consider when introducing the new member of family to the older ones, and sometimes the best thing to do is simply bite the bullet and see how things pan out. That’s exactly what one man did when he found an abandoned kitten and decided to introduce her straight away to his huge rottweiler! Luckily, after some perseverance from the sweet kitten, the pair now get on like a house on fire, and the man documented the progress over on his YouTube channel so we can catch a glimpse into how the bond grew between these two unlikely friends.
Sweet little Akula was rescued by stepseven back in 2017, and since then she’s grown in leaps and bounds! The man shared the story of her rescue onto Imgur with the title, ‘I helped out two homeless cats at work before winter and today I got my prize.’ He explained how he had heard a noise in the bushes before coming across a tiny kitten. Naturally, he’d taken one look at how cute she was and decided that he was going to adopt her!
But taking her home was going to pose a huge question: how would his rottweiler Choko handle this new member of the family?
Well, we don’t have to wait long to find out. As it turns out, stepseven’s YouTube channel is dedicated to his pets, and he’s documented the whole process of friendship between the pair! In one video, titled ‘Rottweiler and kitten become friends,’ we can see what appears to be one of the initial meetings between the two.
At first, Choko seems a little hesitant towards this new arrival, whilst Akula, on the other hand, just wants to make friends! She leaps excitedly around the weary Rottie to try to get him to play, but the stubborn pooch just isn’t having it. She’s so brave around him that Stepseven jokes in the caption, ‘I wonder who scares who?’
After persistently trying to get her big brother’s attention, Akula’s efforts finally pay off when Choko turns his head and gives a big smile just for her. You can tell already that the sweet boy is getting used to having a new younger sister in his life!
In another adorable video, titled, ‘Hey, nice spot… mind if i take it?’, we can see some sibling rivalry come into play. Choko is lying comfortably on his bed, but then as soon as Akula approaches, he gets straight up and walks to the corner of the room. He then lays down on the floor over there.
It’s so hilarious that despite being less than a quarter of his size, Akula still wears the trousers in this relationship! Though as soon as Choko gives up his bed for her, she stubbornly decides that she doesn’t want it anymore. It’s always the way.
