Just like humans, animals can also suffer from disabilities. The most common disabilities are deformed or missing limbs.

Some are inborn, but others were acquired through injury, and this tiny chicken knows all about it.

Meet Nubz.

Nubz has, well, nubs.

That is exactly what Meesh did with her beloved chicken, Nubz, who was toe-less when she received him from the previous owner.

As pet owners, we need to consider how to ease the pain that may occur from the disability.

Chickens with toes should not wear boots.

“Normal chickens definitely should not be wearing shoes,” said Meesh during an interview with The Dodo.

And the name Nubz came from the chicken’s condition.

Meesh further said that Nubz has no tips or nails on any of his toes, making them look like duck feet.

One day, a lady found out that Meesh ran a rescue and asked if she was willing to take a couple of chickens. The previous owner never explained how Nubz lost his toes.

On his first days in the sanctuary, Nubz did not move much. It could have been due to his disability.

“Then I realized that I had these old dog shoes that we don’t use anymore,” Meesh said. “And so I put them on, and it was really funny at first,” she further explained.

Nubz got the hang of it after a week.

Then, Meesh’s mother-in-law sent out a few pairs of shoes bought online and, since then, the chicken has been wearing boots every day.

Currently, Nubz has 30 pairs of boots.

His favorite ones are the original brown shoes. And his behavior has changed entirely now that Nubz has the boots on.

He can go anywhere in the coop without worrying too much about his toe-less feet.

“I think it’s just because it’s given him confidence that he can go farther,” Meesh shared.

It was a clear sign to them that pain was what prevented Nubz to enjoy what chickens usually do.

Meesh explained that since wearing the boots, Nubz is ready to take on the world.

He mostly loves to hang out with Meesh.

A certified mama’s boy if she’s asked. Nubz really wants to do the things that Meesh is doing.

He loves to peck on her phone.

He’ll also eat what Meesh is eating, and so on. And every time they go to Meesh’s parent’s house, they always ask if she brought Nubz with her.

The video has nearly 1 million views already.

A user commented, “Sorry for Nub’s feet problems but, seriously, this is one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen. A chicken in boots! Who would have ever thought this would work? And she kept trying. Guess patience really is a virtue.”

He is ever so curious.

And that’s what makes Nubz special, according to Meesh. He loves to run around the sanctuary wherever his feet can bring him.

All thanks to Meesh’s initiative to use an old pair of dog shoes, which changed the life of this loveable chicken.
