When it comes to animal rescue operations, the Arizona Humane Society always expects to find animals afraid or in obvious signs of stress. However, when the institution found one pitbull stuck on someone’s roof, they were not prepared to meet the most excited dog ever!
Earlier this month, the team of rescuers was able to save the pup which was later on named Rufio. He was on the roof and nobody seems to know how he got there. Someone from the neighborhood saw the dog running on the roof and called the Arizona Humane Society Emergency Animal Medical Technicians to step in.
Rescuers Jenna Moffitt and Andy Gallo were quick to respond.
“No one has any idea as to how Rufio ended up on the roof. Our best guess is that he either chased something up there and wasn’t able to get down, or he was trying out to be this year’s Santa Paws,” Kelsey Dickerson, media relations specialist at AHS, shared with The Dodo. “However he wiggled himself up there, we are grateful that the Good Samaritan knew to call AHS’ rescuers.”
Rufio was absolutely excited as he saw the rescuers get out of the car and approach the roof where he was on. He was simply ecstatic! He could not stop himself from running back and forth and rolling over the roof in total excitement.
One wouldn’t really call him stressed or cowering despite the situation he was in. In fact, he looked like he was having the best day of his life on top of that roof.
Andy went on the roof to get a better hold of the pup and from what he observed, he could not think of any way that Rufio might have gone through for him to eventually reach that roof. As he prepared to get the dog down on the ground, all Rufio did was to jump on him and give him a happy dance!
Finally, Andy was able to bring Rufio down with the help of Jenna. As soon as Andy set foot on the lawn, Rufio instantly ran back to him and excitedly bumped onto the rescuer, as if telling him how happy he was to be around the two of them. Rufio was just so full of energy!
Rufio was identified as a stray puppy and so, he was moved to AHS’ Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital so he could get checked. He was thoroughly examined to ensure that he did not sustain any injury from his stay on the roof.
Fortunately, the pup was free from injuries and seemed to be fine. When he was brought to AHS, it is an understatement to say that everyone welcomed him at the shelter. They absolutely adored him!
“Rufio is a huge love bug with lots of energy,” Dickerson said. “He absolutely loves everyone and will greet you with his signature tail wags, body wiggles and plenty of kisses within just a few seconds of meeting.”
Only a week after being accepted in the shelter, Rufio was adopted because he was such a happy and bubbly pitbull.
He has now found his forever home where he can run freely and enjoy every day with a Mom who absolutely loves him.
